Neisseria gonorrhoeae Infections [PDF]

open access: yesPathogens, 2020
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease with a high morbidity burden. Despite having guidelines for its treatment, the incidence of the disease follows an increasing trend worldwide. This is mainly due to the appearance of antibiotic-resistant strains, inefficient diagnostic methods and poor sexual education. Without an effective vaccine available,

Autoplaquing in Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1985
Irregularly shaped autoplaques were observed on a lawn of two different strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Autoplaquing occurred on gonococcal genetic medium lacking arginine and was noninducible on complete gonococcal genetic medium. The cell density, incubation temperature, and agar base influenced autoplaquing.

Autolysis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1975
Physiological conditions that would provide maximal rates of autolysis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae were examined. Autolysis was found to occur over a broad pH range with the optimum at pH 9.0 IN 0.05 M tris(hydroxymethyl)amino-methane-maleate buffer. The temperature optimum was found to be 40 C.

Commensal Neisseria species share immune suppressive mechanisms with Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a highly adapted human sexually transmitted pathogen that can cause symptomatic infections associated with localized inflammation as well as asymptomatic and subclinical infections, particularly in females.

Autolysis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1976
Autolysis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae was studied under different conditions. It was found that low pH and temperature, as well as the presence of divalent cations, spermine, sucrose, and polyvinylpyrrolidone, stabilized nongrowing gonococci. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid alone promoted lysis, whereas lysozyme had only a limited additive effect.

In vitro study of potential antibacterial pometia pinnata leaf extract in Neisseria gonorrhoeae

open access: yesMedisains, 2021
Background: Gonorrhea cases experiencing antibiotic resistance are increasing due to inadequate treatment or failure to contribute to an increase in antibiotic resistance cases; WHO suggests adding herbal therapy treatment methods is expected to minimize

Exfoliating Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yesNature Reviews Microbiology, 2020
This study finds that Neisseria gonorrhoeae suppresses epithelial exfoliation by nitric oxide-mediated initiation of a host signalling pathway to promote colonization in mice.

Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Abstract Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a Gram-negative, intracellular diplococcus that is transmitted by direct inoculation of infected secretion from one mucosa to another. It primarily colonizes the columnar epithelium of lower genital tract, only occasionally spreading to the upper genital tract or causing systemic disease ...
