Reactivity of Carbohydrate Phosphodiesters, Potential Targets of Antibacterial Agents

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
A simple carbohydrate phosphodiester model was synthesized to compare the reactivity of phosphodiester bonds within carbohydrates and RNA. ABSTRACT While monosaccharide units in bacterial carbohydrates may be linked with phosphodiester bonds, human carbohydrates exclusively contain glycosidic linkages.

Outbreak of Sexually Transmitted Nongroupable Neisseria meningitidis–Associated Urethritis, Vietnam

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2023
We report on an outbreak of nongroupable Neisseria meningitidis–associated urethritis, primarily among men who have sex with men in southern Vietnam. Nearly 50% of N. meningitidis isolates were resistant to ciprofloxacin.

Biological Functions of the Secretome of Neisseria meningitidis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2017
Neisseria meningitidis is a Gram-negative bacterial pathogen that normally resides as a commensal in the human nasopharynx but occasionally causes disease with high mortality and morbidity.

Development of a Promising Bivalent Vaccine Against Klebsiella pneumoniae Based on Glycoengineered GMMA (geGMMA)

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
Multidrug‐resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae poses a significant threat as a nosocomial pathogen, with no current licensed vaccines available. This study used a mutant E. coli strain expressing exogenous polysaccharides (from K. pneumoniae) to establish glycoengineered generalized modules for membrane antigens (geGMMA) vaccine platform, which demonstrated

Adjuvants : an essential component of neisseria vaccines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Adjuvants may be classified into delivery systems and immune potentiator or modulator molecules based on their mechanism of action. Neisseria vaccines containing traditional adjuvants such as aluminium salts have existed for long time, but meningitis ...

Conservation of Meningococcal Antigens in the Genus Neisseria

open access: yesmBio, 2013
Neisseria meningitidis, one of the major causes of bacterial meningitis and sepsis, is a member of the genus Neisseria, which includes species that colonize the mucosae of many animals.

Neisseria meningitidis ST11 Complex Isolates Associated with Nongonococcal Urethritis, Indiana, USA, 2015–2016

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2017
At a clinic in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, we observed an increase in Neisseria gonorrhoeae–negative men with suspected gonococcal urethritis who had urethral cultures positive for N. meningitidis. We describe genomes of 2 of these N.

A relapse of acute group B streptococcus meningitis in a healthy adult: Case report and review of the literatures

open access: yesJournal of General and Family Medicine, Volume 26, Issue 5, Page 485-489, September 2025.
Abstract Streptococcus agalactiae (GBS) is a rare cause of meningitis in healthy adults. We report the case of a healthy 33‐year‐old man with acute GBS meningitis who experienced relapsed high‐grade fever and increased intracranial pressure following completing intravenous antibiotics.

Transport and Catabolism of Carbohydrates by Neisseria meningitidis [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobial Physiology, 2016
We identified the genes encoding the proteins for the transport of glucose and maltose in Neisseria meningitidis strain 2C4-3. A mutant deleted for NMV_1892(glcP) no longer grew on glucose and deletion of NMV_0424(malY) prevented the utilization of maltose.

Development of Multi-Locus Variable Number Tandem Repeat Analysis for Outbreak Detection of Neisseria meningitidis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Neisseria meningitidis is a major cause of septicemia and meningitis worldwide. Traditional typing methods like pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) for identifying outbreaks are subjective and time consuming.
