Phylum Nemertea

2022
This chapter looks into the members of the phylum Nemertea that are commonly known as ribbon worms. The unsegmented vermiform animals are usually flattened dorsoventrally and are moderately cephalized while also possessing highly extensible bodies and strong regeneration powers.

Comparative sperm ultrastructure in Nemertea

Journal of Morphology, 2010
AbstractAlthough the monophyly of Nemertea is strongly supported by unique morphological characters and results of molecular phylogenetic studies, their ingroup relationships are largely unresolved. To contribute solving this problem we studied sperm ultrastructure of 12 nemertean species that belong to different subtaxa representing the commonly ...

Structure of the Proboscis Endothelium in Nemertea

Zoological Science, 2015
We studied the ultrastructure of the proboscis endothelium of 14 nemertean species. In all nemerteans examined, the endothelium is organized as a pseudostratified myoepithelium consisting of two types of cells resting on the basal extracellular matrix: apically situated supportive cells and subapical myocytes covered by cytoplasmic sheets of the ...

Nemertea (Nemertini)

2015
AbstractNemertea is a spiralian phylum comprising approximately 1300 species of mostly marine, nocturnal predators. Prey is captured with an eversible proboscis housed in a dorsally located fluid filled secondary body cavity, called rhynchocoel. Three major clades are recognized: Hoplonemertea, Pilidiophora, and Palaeonemertea.

Higher classification of the Monostilifera (Nemertea: Hoplonemertea)

Zootaxa, 2021
The nemertean order Monostilifera consists of 594 species in 127 genera and is distributed worldwide. Within the Monostilifera, two suborders have been recognized, Cratenemertea and Eumonostilifera. Within the latter, two, unranked clade names, Oerstediina and Amphiporina, were recently proposed without formal taxonomic definition.

The partial mitochondrial genome of the Cephalothrix rufifrons (Nemertea, Palaeonemertea): Characterization and implications for the phylogenetic position of Nemertea

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2007
A continuous 10.1kb fragment of the Cephalothrix rufifrons (Nemertea, Palaeonemertea) mitochondrial genome was sequenced and characterized to further assess organization of protostome mitochondrial genomes and evaluate the phylogenetic potential of gene arrangement and amino acid characters.

Nemertea Proboscis Inspired Extendable Mechanism

2019 International Symposium on Micro-NanoMechatronics and Human Science (MHS), 2019
In this research, we aim to establish a design theory and implementation method for an inflatable robot mechanism that can branch and divide freely based on the core technology that a robot freely shapes its structure with a shape memory function. As a first step of our investigation, we present an initial prototype model of branched torus mechanism ...
