Neology: from word to register
, 2014 In this paper, we investigate the context within which a neologism occurs. A pilot study of a diachronic journalistic corpus confirms that a coinage or new word formation which names or is associated with a major topical event will often not occur in isolation, but become part of a communal and cumulative activity.

A finer definition of neology in English
, 2013 Neology can be identified in a text corpus at surface level by automatic means (Renouf 1993a). In a diachronic corpus of journalism a lexical neologism can be found by comparing each word in a stream of data with a baseline index. A semantic neologism is identifiable through the change in the word’s collocational environment (Renouf 1993b).
