Plasma Fatty Acids in Chronic Kidney Disease: Nervonic Acid Predicts Mortality
Journal of Renal Nutrition, 2012Although the value of red blood cell fatty acids (FAs) in estimating risk for acute coronary syndrome in the general population is evident, the value of FAs in chronic kidney disease (CKD) is unknown. Here, we provide a pilot analysis in a spectrum of CKD patients.

Age-dependent changes in nervonic acid-containing sphingolipids in mouse hippocampus
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, 2017Sphingolipids have been implicated in age-related neurodegeneration. Previous studies have reported elevated ceramide levels in the brain of old rodents, but a systematic investigation of the impact of age on brain sphingolipid metabolism is still lacking. Here we quantified 17 key sphingolipid species in the hippocampus of young (3months), middle-aged

A mini review of nervonic acid: Source, production, and biological functions
Food Chemistry, 2019Nervonic acid (NA) has attracted considerable attention because of its close relationship with brain development. Sources of NA include oil crop seeds, oil-producing microalgae, and other microorganisms. Transgenic technology has also been applied to improve the sources and production of NA.

Metabolism of14C‐labelled oleic acid, erucic acid and nervonic acid in rats
Lipids, 1966Abstract1‐14C‐Oleic acid, 2‐14C‐erucic acid and 2‐14C‐nervonic acid were administered to rats by tail‐vein and the distribution of radioactivity in liver lipids was determined at intervals from 15 min to 6 hr after injection. High levels of activity were found after short time intervals which were mainly associated with triglycerides in the case of ...

Elongation of (omega-14C)oleic acid and (omega-14C)nervonic acid.
The Biochemical journal, 1976During feeding experiments with [omega-14C]oleic acid and [omega-14c]nervonic acid to adult rats, 14C-labelled C26, C28 and C30 fatty acids were recovered from the intestinal mucosa, liver, plasma, kidney and stools. The structures of these fatty acids were determined by g.l.c., radio-g.l.c. and mass spectrometry.

[Determination of nervonic acid in oral tonic by GC].
Se pu = Chinese journal of chromatography, 2010A method for determination of nervonic acid in oral tonic has been developed by gas chromatography. The samples were derivatized by BF3-CH3OH. Dinonyl phthalate was used as the internal standard. The calibration curve was linear over a range from 0.3 g/L to 3 g/L with a correlation coefficient of 0.9994.

European Journal of Pharmacology
Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) has been acknowledged as a potential contributor to cognitive dysfunction and brain injury, causing progressive demyelination of white matter, oligodendrocytes apoptosis and microglia activation. Nervonic acid (NA), a naturally occurring fatty acid with various pharmacological effects, has been found to alleviate ...

PREPARATION OF ERUCIC AND NERVONIC ACIDS LABELLED WITH CARBON-14
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1957The malonic ester synthesis of nervonic acid (tetracos-15-enoic acid) has been modified so that the product consists of pure cis rather than a mixture of cis and trans isomers. The modified synthesis has been used for the preparation of C14-labelled erucic and nervonic acids.
