A nose-to-brain axis for spoiled food odor-triggered defensive responses in male mice

open access: yesNature Communications
Rancid odors can trigger retching and aversion in humans that prevent consumption of spoiled food, and consequently metabolic dysregulation, but the underlying neural mechanisms remain unclear.

Advanced Materials for Biologics Delivery to Brain Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Material innovation is central to unlocking the therapeutic potential of biologics against many central nervous system diseases, including brain cancer. By engineering carriers with controlled transport, targeting, and release properties, advanced materials can overcome the blood–brain barrier and tumor microenvironment, improving the delivery of ...

Refractory Neonatal Apnea Revealing Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome: Improved Outcome through Early Multidisciplinary Intervention

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Perinatology Reports
Background: Congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS) is a rare genetic disorder that causes alveolar hypoventilation because of impaired chemoreceptor response to hypercapnia and hypoxia occurring due to a dysfunctional central ...

Soft and Transient Bioelectronics Enabled by Polymer‐Free Ti3C2Tx MXene Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We present Ti3C2Tx MXene hydrogel (MXgel) bioelectronics, a soft, flexible, and fully transient platform for high‐fidelity neural recording and stimulation. MXgel bioelectronics exhibit exceptional electrical conductivities, low electrochemical impedances, and high charge injection capacities.

3D Printed Photon Shield Assembly for Low‐Noise Visual Stimulation During Two‐Photon Imaging in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We present the Photon Shield, an open‐hardware system for low‐noise two‐photon calcium imaging during visual stimulation in mice. Combining a 3D‐printed headplate and rail‐mounted shield substantially reduces stray‐light contamination, as quantitatively verified. Functional validation confirms reliable cortical responses. Open design files enable broad

Central actions of somatostatin in the generation and control of breathing

open access: yesBiological Research, 2005
The neuropeptide somatostatin is involved in many functions in the central nervous system as well as in the periphery. When it is centrally injected, an irreversible apnea is often developed.

CD9+ B Cells Induce T Follicular Helper Cell Apoptosis to Regulate Germinal Center Regression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A unique subset of CD9+ B cells regulates germinal center B (GC‐B) cell regression by inducing T follicular helper (Tfh) cell apoptosis through multiple signaling pathways, such as ALCAM‐CD6. FOXP1 plays a key role in GC‐B cell differentiation. These findings clarify mechanisms of GC degeneration and termination and offer potential targets for adenoid ...

A Pentaradial and Bilateral Combined Photoreception System in the Sea Cucumber is Mediated by a Blue Light‐Sensitive R‐Opsin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.
