The reciprocal regulation of stress hormones and GABAA receptors
Stress-derived steroid hormones regulate the expression and function of GABAA receptors (GABAARs). Changes in GABAAR subunit expression have been demonstrated under conditions of altered steroid hormone levels, such as stress, as well as following ...

The pesticidal potential of Agave angustifolia by assessing its anti‐nematic, antimicrobial, and insecticidal activities, alongside phytochemical profiling. ABSTRACT Plant diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, nematodes, and viruses contribute significantly to annual crop losses and economic hardship. Reliance on chemical pesticides, over a thousand used

Adolescent social isolation disrupts hippocampal function and exacerbates emotional symptoms, with sex‐specific patterns, as shown by human studies. In mice, social isolation decreased hippocampal synaptic density and calcium signaling, upregulated complement proteins, and activated complement‐mediated microglial synaptic phagocytosis.

Neuroactive steroids, neurosteroidogenesis and sex
The nervous system is a target and a source of steroids. Neuroactive steroids are steroids that target neurons and glial cells. They include hormonal steroids originated in the peripheral glands, steroids locally synthesized by the neurons and glial cells (neurosteroids) and synthetic steroids, some of them used in clinical practice. Here we review the

Novel approaches for drug development against chronic primary pain: A systematic review
Abstract Chronic primary pain (CPP) persisting for more than 3 months, associated with significant emotional distress without any known underlying cause, is an unmet medical need. Traditional or adjuvant analgesics do not provide satisfactory pain relief for a great proportion of these patients.

AllergoOncology in Review: Harnessing Allergy in the Field of Oncology to Improve Patient Outcomes
ABSTRACT The AllergoOncology field brings together the study of allergic and cancer immune responses, having evolved from early epidemiological studies that reported inverse associations between allergies, IgE and cancer risk. Insights from studying allergic inflammation are revealing previously unappreciated immune mechanisms that confer protective ...

GABA signaling and neuroactive steroids in adrenal medullary chromaffin cells
GABA is produced not only in the brain, but also in endocrine cells by the two isoforms of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD), GAD65 and GAD67. In rat adrenal medullary chromaffin cells only GAD67 is expressed, and GABA is stored in large dense core ...
