From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Image Transmission Based on Spiking Dynamics of Electrically Controlled VCSEL-SA Neuron

open access: yesPhotonics, 2021
Based on the spiking dynamics of the electrically controlled vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser with an embedded saturable absorber (VCSEL-SA), we propose an image transmission system using two unidirectionally coupled VCSEL-SAs and numerically ...

A TRPV Channel in Drosophila Motor Neurons Regulates Presynaptic Resting Ca2+ Levels, Synapse Growth, and Synaptic Transmission

open access: yesNeuron, 2014
SUMMARY Presynaptic resting Ca2+ influences synaptic vesicle (SV) release probability. Here, we report that a TRPV channel, Inactive (Iav), maintains presynaptic resting [Ca2+] by promoting Ca2+ release from the endoplasmic reticulum in Drosophila motor ...

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.

Neuronal and non-neuronal modulation of sympathetic neurovascular transmission [PDF]

open access: yesActa Physiologica, 2011
Noradrenaline, neuropeptide Y and adenosine triphosphate are co-stored in, and co-released from, sympathetic nerves. Each transmitter modulates its own release as well as the release of one another; thus, anything affecting the release of one of these transmitters has consequences for all.

Revealing the contribution of astrocytes to glutamatergic neuronal transmission

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2023
Research on glutamatergic neurotransmission has focused mainly on the function of presynaptic and postsynaptic neurons, leaving astrocytes with a secondary role only to ensure successful neurotransmission. However, recent evidence indicates that astrocytes contribute actively and even regulate neuronal transmission at different levels.

The C‐terminal truncated splicing variant of NK1R negatively modulates substance P‐stimulated NK1R signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The neurokinin 1 receptor exists as full‐length (NK1L) and C‐terminally truncated (NK1S) splice variants. We show that NK1S heterodimerizes with NK1L, impairing Gαq coupling and Ca2+ mobilization while enhancing β‐arrestin1 recruitment. NK1S suppresses substance P‐driven gene expression and cell migration, revealing NK1S as an endogenous biased ...

Pain-Administrable Neuron Electrode with Wireless Energy Transmission: Architecture Design and Prototyping

open access: yesMicromachines, 2021
Back pain resulted from spine disorders reaches 60–80% prevalence in humans, which seriously influences life quality and retards economic production. Conventional electrical pain relief therapy uses radiofrequency to generate a high temperature of 70–85 °

Distinct Roles of Segregated Transmission of the Septo-Habenular Pathway in Anxiety and Fear

open access: yesNeuron, 2013
SUMMARY The posterior septum consisting of the triangular septum (TS) and the bed nucleus of the anterior commissure (BAC) is predominantly linked with the medial habenula (MHb) and has been implicated in the control of anxiety and fear responses ...
