The role of fibroblast growth factors in cell and cancer metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling regulates crucial signaling cascades that promote cell proliferation, survival, and metabolism. Therefore, FGFs and their receptors are often dysregulated in human diseases, including cancer, to sustain proliferation and rewire metabolism.

Neuropeptide Y, substance P, and human bone morphogenetic protein 2 stimulate human osteoblast osteogenic activity by enhancing gap junction intercellular communication [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2015
Bone homeostasis seems to be controlled by delicate and subtle “cross talk” between the nervous system and “osteo-neuromediators” that control bone remodeling. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of interactions between neuropeptides and

Peptidomimetic inhibitors of the VEGF-A165/NRP-1 complex obtained by modification of the C-terminal arginine

open access: yesAmino Acids
Inhibitors of the interaction between Neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-A165 (VEGF-A165) hold significant promise as therapeutic and diagnostic agents directed against cancers overexpressing NRP-1.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Basal ganglia neuropeptides show abnormal processing associated with L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia

open access: yesnpj Parkinson's Disease, 2022
L-DOPA administration is the primary treatment for Parkinson’s disease (PD) but long-term administration is usually accompanied by hyperkinetic side-effects called L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID). Signaling neuropeptides of the basal ganglia are affected

Functional Integration of Different‐Sex Gonad Transplants Into the Adult Mouse Hypothalamic Pituitary Gonadal Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study introduces and investigates different‐sex gonad transplants in a mouse model of gender‐affirming hormone therapy. Ovaries and testes implanted into gonadectomized adults exhibit gametogenesis and steroidogenesis independent of the sex of the host.

Impact of Surface Functionalization on NV Quantum Properties: Implications for Biosensing with Fluorescent Nanodiamonds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorescent nanodiamonds (fNDs) have emerged as an invaluable quantum sensing platform for biological and biochemical systems. This paper investigates the influence of common surface functionalization strategies for bioconjugation on the quantum properties of nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in nanodiamonds.

The role of neuropeptides in cutaneous wound healing: a focus on mechanisms and neuropeptide-derived treatments

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
An extensive network of cutaneous nerves, neuropeptides, and specific receptors richly innervates the skin and influences a variety of physiological and pathological processes.

Body Biofluids for Minimally‐Invasive Diagnostics: Insights, Challenges, Emerging Technologies, and Clinical Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Recent advances in diagnostics have accelerated the development of miniaturized wearable technologies for the continuous monitoring of diseases. This paradigm is shifting healthcare away from invasive, centralized blood tests toward decentralized monitoring, using alternative body biofluids.
