Isolation and Characterization of Glycerol-3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase-Defective Mutants of \u3cem\u3eNeurospora crassa\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
Three glycerol-nonutilizing mutants deficient in the mitochondrial glycerol-3-phosphate (G3P) dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.99.5) were isolated from inlts derivatives of Neurospora crassa following inositolless death at elevated temperatures on minimal glycerol ...

Circadian Entrainment ofNeurospora crassa [PDF]

open access: yesCold Spring Harbor Symposia on Quantitative Biology, 2007
The circadian clock evolved under entraining conditions, yet most circadian experiments and much circadian theory are built around free-running rhythms. The interpretation of entrainment experiments is certainly more complex than that of free-running rhythms due to the relationship between exogenous and endogenous cycles.

Substrate Scope Expansion of Tryptophan Synthase for the Chemo‐Enzymatic Synthesis of Non‐Canonical Tryptophans

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 5, 13 March 2026.
The substrate scope of tryptophan synthase from Salmonella enterica (SeTrpS) was probed against 28 synthetic indole derivatives bearing aryl rings, N‐methylamino groups, alkynes, and halogens, accessing a broad range of nonnatural l‐tryptophans on analytical scale.

DCAF26, an adaptor protein of Cul4-based E3, is essential for DNA methylation in Neurospora crassa. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2010
DNA methylation is involved in gene silencing and genome stability in organisms from fungi to mammals. Genetic studies in Neurospora crassa previously showed that the CUL4-DDB1 E3 ubiquitin ligase regulates DNA methylation via histone H3K9 trimethylation.

F-Actin Dynamics in Neurospora crassa [PDF]

open access: yesEukaryotic Cell, 2010
ABSTRACT This study demonstrates the utility of Lifeact for the investigation of actin dynamics in Neurospora crassa and also represents the first report of simultaneous live-cell imaging of the actin and microtubule cytoskeletons in filamentous fungi.

The Great Microbiome Extraction Anomaly: How Extraction Bias Distorts Microbial Community Profiles

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Specimen chemistry and nucleic acid state (intracellular, host‐associated, adsorbed, extracellular) influence recovery. Extraction efficiency varies by microbial biology (e.g., reduced lysis of Gram‐positive bacteria). Even under consistent protocols, these factors systematically distort measured community composition relative to the true microbiome ...

Neurospora crassa Mutants Lacking Argininosuccinase [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1957
SUMMARY: Four mutant strains of Neurospora crassa, due to repeated mutation within the same short chromosome region, required arginine as a nutrient and failed to respond to citrulline. These strains accumulated argininosuccinic acid in the mycelium when grown on a medium supplemented with arginine.

Water‐Holding Capacity Regulation of Dietary Fibers in Soybean Residue: From Modification Strategies, to Function Improvement and Food Texture Optimization

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 2, March 2026.
Soybean residue exhibits poor water holding capacity (WHC) due to high insoluble dietary fiber (>95%). Modification strategies (physical, biological, and chemical) enhance WHC by altering fiber structure/function, enabling optimized food texture and functional food development in meat, bakery, dairy, and other food systems.

Demystifying fungal systematics: A gateway to fungal literacy and societal/ecological relevance through familiar species

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 499-515, March 2026.
Fungal systematics can feel overwhelming given the vast species diversity within this kingdom, with numerous subgroups at every taxonomic rank. This often creates a disconnect between the undertsnidng of fungal taxonomic diversity and their societal relevance.

Experimental measurement of endocytosis in fungal hyphae. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The present study examines the notion that polarized exocytosis in the tips of growing hyphae creates an excess of plasma membrane and thus the need for its removal by endocytosis.
