Neurotrophins and hyperalgesia [PDF]
Nerve growth factor (NGF), a member of the neurotrophin family, is crucial for survival of nociceptive neurons during development. Recently, it has been shown to play an important role in nociceptive function in adults. NGF is up-regulated after inflammatory injury of the skin.

Cancer therapy‐induced ototoxicity: Current challenges and emerging management strategies
This review comprehensively examines the key risk factors for cancer therapy‐induced ototoxicity, including cumulative drug dose, genetic susceptibility, and combined treatment regimens. It highlights current challenges in ototoxicity monitoring, such as insufficient timeliness and limited clinical adoption, and advocates for standardized auditory ...

Training-induced gene expression plasticity in cardiac function and neural regulation for ultra-trail runners [PDF]
This study aims to assess the gene regulatory response from a group of 16 athletes and to observe the plasticity induced by their training regime on the gene expression response after their participation in an 82km race.

Objective Nerve growth factor (NGF), a key mediator of pain, is increased in osteoarthritic (OA) joints. Antibodies against NGF show analgesic effects in painful knee OA, but clinical development was stopped because of side effects in the joints. Knowledge about the biologic effects of NGF on joint tissues is limited. Therefore, we explored the effects

Effects of non-pharmacological or pharmacological interventions on cognition and brain plasticity of aging individuals. [PDF]
Brain aging and aging-related neurodegenerative disorders are major health challenges faced by modern societies. Brain aging is associated with cognitive and functional decline and represents the favourable background for the onset and development of ...

New opportunities for bioscaffold‐enabled spinal cord injury repair
Schematic illustration of bioscaffolds for spinal cord injury repair. We summarize the effects of bioscaffold properties on SCI repair, highlight different types of bioscaffolds, various fabrication strategies, and in vivo transformations for the clinical development of SCI‐repairing bioscaffolds.

Asthma is a chronic airway disease that affects more than 300 million people worldwide. Current treatment focuses on symptomatic relief by temporally dampening inflammation and relaxing the airway. Novel combative strategies against asthma and hopefully a cure are yet to be developed.

Abstract Background Schwann cells provide peripheral nerve trophic support, myelinate axons, and assist in repair. However, Schwann cell repair capacity is limited by chronic injury, disease, and aging. Schwann cell reprogramming is a cellular conversion strategy that could provide a renewable cell supply to repair injured nerves.
