Background Metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma has a 5-year survival of only 3%. Neutrophil extracellular traps are formed when neutrophils expel their intracellular contents and have been intricately linked to metastases.

Neutrophil extracellular trap formation requires OPA1-dependent glycolytic ATP production
Optic atrophy 1 (OPA1) is known to be important for mitochondrial fusion and structural integrity. Here, using OPA1 knockout mice, the authors show a detrimental effect on host defense capabilities against pathogen infections.

ABSTRACT Platelet transfusions to treat bleeding complications use donor‐derived platelets stored at room‐temperature, that have a shelf‐life of only 5–7 days due to bacterial contamination risks. Cold‐stored and freeze‐dried platelets are being investigated for extending shelf‐life, but these still have the inherent challenge of donor‐dependency.

NET‐DNA is enriched during early endometriotic lesion establishment and drives anoikis resistance by promoting an ANXA2–TMEM215–BiP axis. This pathway strengthens ER–mitochondria contacts, enhances PINK1/Parkin‐associated mitophagy, preserves mitochondrial homeostasis, and supports ectopic stromal cell survival, thereby facilitating lesion persistence ...

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are not only promising biomarkers of disease, but also potential therapeutic targets. Overproduction or the improper clearance of NETs has been linked to disease severity.

Adenosine receptor agonism protects against NETosis and thrombosis in antiphospholipid syndrome
Antiphospholipid syndrome is characterised by increased neutrophil extracellular trap formation (NETosis) and, consequently, increased thrombotic events. Here Ali et al.

This study presents an injectable DNA‐based porous hydrogel integrating catechol motifs and targeting aptamers for pulpitis management. Upon in situ crosslinking, the scaffold actively recruits endogenous dental pulp stem cells, restores redox homeostasis, and modulates immune responses.

Well established for their central role in hemostasis, platelets have increasingly been appreciated as immune cells in recent years. This emerging role should not come as a surprise as the central immune cells of invertebrates, hemocytes, are able to ...

Single‐cell and spatial profiling of 110 human thoracic aortic samples reveals a stromal–immune circuit driving aortic dissection. An elastin‐rich fibroblast subset is depleted with age and markedly reduced in disease, weakening aortic wall integrity.
