Simultaneous Quantification of Phenolic Compounds and Capsaicinoids in Chili Peppers Using Ultra‐High Performance Liquid Chromatography‐Tandem Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
A UHPLC‐MS/MS method was developed to simultaneously quantify four capsaicinoids and 19 phenolic compounds, the key bioactive constituents in chili peppers. It exhibits high sensitivity, low matrix effects, excellent accuracy, and precision, enabling reliable detection in chili samples.

Effectiveness of Chemical and Thermal Treatments on Control Rhizopus stolonifer Fruit Infection Comparing Tomato Cultivars with Different Sensitivities to Cracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Tomatoes are among the most important horticultural crops; however, it is estimated that 30% of tomato yield is lost due to postharvest rot due to Rhizopus stolonifer, a fungus which requires lesions to initiate the infectious process.

Aloe vera in Food Preservation: Harnessing Bioactive Constituents for Clean‐Label Innovation and Safety Assurance

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Aloe vera‐derived biopolymers and nanoformulations enhance antimicrobial, antioxidant, and barrier functions in clean‐label edible coatings and films, whereas safety‐critical anthraquinone thresholds and regulatory constraints shape their translational potential.

Upcycling Pomegranate Peel Into Functional Yoghurt: Chemical Profile, Antioxidant Capacity, and Anti–Staphylococcus aureus Activity

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Pomegranate peel extract enhanced the nutritional, physicochemical, and microbiological qualities of yoghurt. It is a rich source of polyphenolic compounds that eliminates Staphylococcus aureus in yoghurt at 0.1% and 0.3% concentrations without altering its pH value. ABSTRACT The use of natural additives, particularly pomegranate peel extract (PPE), to

Monitoring and Mitigation Strategies for Hazardous Compounds in Chinese Rice Wine (Huangjiu): A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
This review elucidates the formation pathways and detection technologies for ethyl carbamate, biogenic amines, and higher alcohols in Huangjiu. It concludes that integrated control frameworks are essential to decouple safety risks from the metabolic processes responsible for flavor development.

Germplasm identification of bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and lettuce ( Lactuca sativa L.) resistant to avirulent populations of Meloidogyne spp. to Mi gene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Phytoparasitic nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne spp. are the cause of important losses in horticulture. In recent years, plant resistance has been used to reduce this damage in a sustainable way.

A Novel Type of Fluorescent Chlorophyll Catabolites Hypermodified by Lipophilic Chloroplast Membrane Components

open access: yesHelvetica Chimica Acta, EarlyView.
Breakdown of chlorophyll (Chl) is a fundamental biological phenomenon. In de‐greening banana leaves, Chl is transformed into colorless “fluorescent” Chl‐catabolites (FCCs) that cause the leaves to luminesce blue. Hypothesis‐driven search for apolar banana‐FCCs, and structure elucidation, have revealed a striking first link between lipid metabolism and ...

Development of an Organic Table Grape Production and Market in Switzerland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In Switzerland there is an increasing consumer demand for residue-free, organic table grapes. The organic cultivation of table grapes, however, is very delicate in humid climates and experience to advice organic growers is still lacking.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal community abundance, functions, and symbiotic interactions revealed by root metatranscriptomes

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Paradigm shift: PCR‐free methods reveal 6–15‐fold higher arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal abundance than metabarcoding, exposing systematic underestimation across decades of research. Predictive power: AM fungal abundance serves as a community‐level trait that predicts crop yield under drought conditions.
