Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Molecular Characterisation of a Rare Reassortant Porcine-Like G5P[6] Rotavirus Strain Detected in an Unvaccinated Child in Kasama, Zambia

open access: yesPathogens, 2020
A human-porcine reassortant strain, RVA/Human-wt/ZMB/UFS-NGS-MRC-DPRU4723/2014/G5P[6], was identified in a sample collected in 2014 from an unvaccinated 12 month old male hospitalised for gastroenteritis in Zambia.

Decreased exosome-delivered miR-486-5p is responsible for the peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer cells by promoting EMT progress

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2021
Background The present study aims to investigate the preliminary mechanism underlying the peritoneal metastasis of gastric cancer cells. Methods Exosomes from GC9811 cells (Con-Exo) and from GC9811-P cells (PM-Exo) were extracted by ultracentrifugation ...

Age-related changes in polycomb gene regulation disrupt lineage fidelity in intestinal stem cells

open access: yeseLife, 2021
Tissue homeostasis requires long-term lineage fidelity of somatic stem cells. Whether and how age-related changes in somatic stem cells impact the faithful execution of lineage decisions remains largely unknown.

Next-Generation Sequencing: The Race Is On [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 2008
The $1000 genome may still be years away, but with the arrival of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies that are much faster and cheaper than the traditional Sanger method, large-scale sequencing of hundreds or even thousands of human genomes is fast becoming reality.

Next Generation Sequence Assembly with AMOS [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Protocols in Bioinformatics, 2011
AbstractA Modular Open‐Source Assembler (AMOS) was designed to offer a modular approach to genome assembly. AMOS includes a wide range of tools for assembly, including the lightweight de novo assemblers Minimus and Minimo, and Bambus 2, a robust scaffolder able to handle metagenomic and polymorphic data. This protocol describes how to configure and use

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Unveiling a Shift in the Rotavirus Strains in Benin: Emergence of Reassortment Intergenogroup and Equine-like G3P[8] Strains in the Post-Vaccination Era

open access: yesViruses
While a global downward trend in rotavirus diarrhea cases has been observed following vaccine introduction, reassortment, genetic drift, and vaccine-escaping strains remain a concern, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Participating in Next Generation Sequencing [PDF]

open access: yesGenetic Testing and Molecular Biomarkers, 2015
On February 20, 2015, as part of the Precision Medicine Initiative, announced by President Obama, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) held a meeting at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) all day. The meeting was titled “Optimizing FDA's Regulatory Oversight of Next Generation Sequencing Diagnostic Tests” (Food and Drug Administration, 2015 ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
