Iron Physiology and Its Impact on Atopic Diseases: An EAACI Taskforce Report

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 81, Issue 8, Page 2675-2712, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Iron is essential for oxygen transport, energy metabolism, and immune regulation. Yet iron deficiency is the most common micronutrient disorder across all age groups, affecting nearly one quarter of the global population. Iron deficiency triggers nutritional immunity, a host defense mechanism that withholds and redistributes iron, contributing

IgE Antibody Function and Mast Cell Activation to Egg in Children Undergoing Baked and Loosely Cooked Egg Challenges

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 81, Issue 8, Page 2874-2884, August 2026.
MAT is dependent on the presence of allergen‐specific IgE and can provide false‐negative results in allergic patients with low allergen‐specific IgE levels. MAT and BAT are moderately correlated. MAT can be used as a surrogate of BAT, when fresh blood is not available or in the case of patients with non‐releaser basophils.

Infection control in the brain and the eye

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 5, Page e478-e490, August 2026.
Abstract The Central Nervous System (CNS), comprising the brain and the eye, is considered to have a ‘privileged’ mechanism for dealing with immunological challenge (immune privilege, IP). CNS IP has been revealed through experiments using foreign protein antigens and cell and tissue alloantigens (grafts), but evidence for a role for IP in modulating ...

Multiparametric MRI in prostate cancer active surveillance: results from the Miami Active Surveillance Trial (MAST) trial

open access: yesBJU International, Volume 138, Issue 2, Page 276-284, August 2026.
Objectives To examine the role of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) in enhancing prostate cancer (PCa) detection and selecting candidates for active surveillance (AS), given that its utility in monitoring disease progression remains unclear.
