Parental origin of the allotetraploid tobacco Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, 2019
Summary Nicotiana section Suaveolentes is an almost all‐Australian clade of allopolyploid tobacco species including the important plant model Nicotiana benthamiana. The homology relationships of this clade and its formation are not completely understood.

Comparative Analysis of the Capacity of Tombusvirus P22 and P19 Proteins to Function as Avirulence Determinants in Nicotiana species

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2011
We have used an agroinfiltration assay for a comparative study of the roles of tombusvirus P22 and P19 proteins in elicitation of hypersensitive response (HR)-like necrosis and the role of P19 in silencing suppression in Nicotiana species.

Characterization of the CLE Family in Three Nicotiana Species and Potential Roles of CLE Peptides in Osmotic and Salt Stress Responses

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
The CLE family (CLAVATA3/embryo surrounding region-related), a class of small secreted proteins, play important roles in plant development and stress responses.

Production of the main celiac disease autoantigen by transient expression in Nicotiana benthamiana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Celiac Disease (CD) is a gluten sensitive enteropathy that remains widely undiagnosed and implementation of massive screening tests is needed to reduce the long term complications associated to untreated CD.

Identification of precursor transcripts for 6 novel miRNAs expands the diversity on the genomic organisation and expression of miRNA genes in rice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The plant miRNAs represent an important class of endogenous small RNAs that guide cleavage of an mRNA target or repress its translation to control development and adaptation to stresses.

An Antagonism Between Ethylene Signaling and DNA Methylation Orchestrates the Progression of Leaf Senescence in Non‐heading Chinese Cabbage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CMT2 mediates the maintenance of DNA methylation on the promoters of SAGs, thereby inhibiting EIN3A untimely activating SAGs’ expression. Aging‐impelled striking upregulation of EIN3A strongly suppresses the expression of CMT2 to reduce the methylation level, which releases the activation of EIN3A on SAGs, thus initiating and accelerating the ...

Transgenic tobacco plants expressing the Potato virus X open reading frame 3 gene develop specific resistance and necrotic ring symptoms after infection with the homologous virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Tobacco plants were transformed with the open reading frame 3 gene from Potato virus X (PVX) coding for the p12 protein. Although the transgenic plants exhibited a normal morphological aspect, microscopic examination revealed extensive alterations in ...

Genome-Wide Identification and Expression Profiling Analysis of the Xyloglucan Endotransglucosylase/Hydrolase Gene Family in Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.)

open access: yesGenes, 2018
Xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase genes (XTHs) encode enzymes required for the reconstruction and modification of xyloglucan backbones, which will result in changes of cell wall extensibility during growth.

Natural Allelic Variations in IbCHYR1–IbZnFR Complex Regulate Fusarium Root Rot Resistance in Sweet Potato

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FfRlpA2, a conserved Fusarium effector, functions as a protease inhibitor by hijacking the E3 ubiquitin ligase IbCHYR1 to degrade the resistance factor IbZnFR, thereby promoting Fusarium pathogenicity. Conversely, the high dosage Pro::IbZnFRHap2 allele was associated with resistance to root rot disease.
