DNA methylation at tobacco telomeric sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Majerová et al. (Plant Mol Biol, 2011) have recently reported that a considerable fraction of cytosines at tobacco telomeres is methylated. Although the data presented in this report indicate that tobacco telomeric sequences undergo certain levels of DNA

The Nicotiana tabacum ABC transporter NtPDR3 secretes O-methylated coumarins in response to iron deficiency

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2018
In response to iron deficiency, Nicotiana tabacum secretes both flavins and O-methylated coumarins to the rhizosphere, the latter being transported by NtPDR3, an ABC transporter.

JA‐Mediated Regulation of Amino Acid Homeostasis Adjusts Metabolic Flux and Enhances Spider Mite Tolerance via the SlJAZ8‐SlWRKY57‐SlAVT6s Module in Tomato

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study elucidates a novel SlJAZ8‐SlWRKY57‐SlAVT6A/SlAVT6B module that effectively channels metabolic flux from primary to secondary metabolism, impacting plant growth, development, and resistance. Two novel vacuolar amino acid exporters, SlAVT6A and SlAVT6B, fine‐tunes trichomes, terpenes, and gibberellins, bolstering spider mite resistance.

Polyploid Nicotiana section Suaveolentes originated by hybridization of two ancestral Nicotiana clades

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2023
IntroductionNicotiana section Suaveolentes is an almost all-Australian clade of allopolyploid tobacco species that emerged through hybridization between diploid relatives of the genus.

Glycoform Modification of Secreted Recombinant Glycoproteins through Kifunensine Addition during Transient Vacuum Agroinfiltration. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Kifunensine, a potent and selective inhibitor of class I α-mannosidases, prevents α-mannosidases I from trimming mannose residues on glycoproteins, thus resulting in oligomannose-type glycans.

Time-calibrated phylogenetic trees establish a lag between polyploidisation and diversification in Nicotiana (Solanaceae)

open access: yesPlant Systematics and Evolution, 2017
We investigate the timing of diversification in allopolyploids of Nicotiana (Solanaceae) utilising sequence data of maternal and paternal origin to look for evidence of a lag phase during which diploidisation took place.

An Apple Susceptibility‐Related LRR Receptor‐Like Kinase MdRLKT21 Activates Plant Immunity by Hijacking a Trans‐Kingdom Fungal microRNA‐Like RNA

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The apple susceptibility‐related LRR‐RLK MdRLKT21 competitively binds to fungal sRNA effectors and subsequently activates defenses by salvaging the expression of MdRLKT1 and MdRLKT2 and thereby releasing the resistance protein MdRFP1. These findings provide new insights into the molecular mechanism by which plants counteract pathogen‐secreted sRNA ...

Polymorphism and structure of style–specific arabinogalactan proteins as determinants of pollen tube growth in Nicotiana

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2017
Background Pollen tube growth and fertilization are key processes in angiosperm sexual reproduction. The transmitting tract (TT) of Nicotiana tabacum controls pollen tube growth in part by secreting pistil extensin-like protein III (PELPIII ...

An RxLR effector from phytophthora infestans prevents re-localisation of two plant NAC transcription factors from the endoplasmic reticulum to the nucleus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The plant immune system is activated following the perception of exposed, essential and invariant microbial molecules that are recognised as non-self. A major component of plant immunity is the transcriptional induction of genes involved in a wide array ...

Evolutionary and expression analysis of CAMTA gene family in Nicotiana tabacum yielded insights into their origin, expansion and stress responses

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Calmodulin-binding transcription activators (CAMTAs) represent the novel gene family of transcriptional regulators, which play important biological functions. Though, the first ever plant CAMTA gene was evidenced in Nicotiana tabacum in 2002.
