Immunology of the Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor

1979
The classical surface antigens of Enterobacteriaceae: 0, K, and H antigens have been studied extensively in the past and have provided a basis for the taxonomy of this family (Kauffmann, 1966, 1975). In comparison to the vast knowledge accumulated on the structure, localization, genetic determination, and biologic effects of O and K antigens (Weinbaum ...

Protein Phosphorylation of Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor

Critical Reviews in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1989
The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAcChR) is a ligand-gated ion channel found in the postsynaptic membranes of electric organs, at the neuromuscular junction, and at nicotinic cholinergic synapses of the mammalian central and peripheral nervous system.

Enzymatic carboxymethylation of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1980
Summary The enzymatic carboxymethylation of the acetylcholine receptors isolated from Torpedo california is described. The acetylcholine receptor was found to be one of the most active substrates for protein carboxymethylase. The receptor methylation is not affected by the binding of cholinergic ligand.

Ca2+ permeability of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors

Cell Calcium, 2004
Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are expressed in muscle cells and neurons, as well as in an increasing number of other cell types. The nAChR channels are permeable to cations, including Ca(2+). Ca(2+) entry through nAChR channels has been shown to modulate several Ca(2+)-dependent cellular processes, such as neurotransmitter release ...

Neuronal Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors

1998
Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChR) are prototypical members of the neurotransmitter-gated superfamily of ion channels (ionotropic neurotransmitter receptors; see Figure 7.1; see chapters 2,5, and 6 in this volume).‡ AChR mediate some of the effects of the endogenous neurotransmitter, acetylcholine (ACh), and they are principal biological targets ...
