Cytochromes of Nitrobacter

Nature, 1958
A CYTOCHROME system appears to be involved in the oxidation of nitrite by Nitrobacter since, at normal temperatures, three cytochrome bands may be seen in suspensions of the cells in the presence of nitrite, but not in its absence. These are two sharp bands at 521 mµ and at 550 mµ and a more diffuse, less-intense band at about 589 mµ 1.

Plasmids in Nitrobacter

Archives of Microbiology, 1984
A screening of nine Nitrobacter strains showed that Nitrobacter X14 and Nitrobacter Y possess plasmids designated as pNH1 and pNH2, respectively. The plasmids pNH1 and pNH2 had molecular weights of about 76 Mdal as estimated by agarose gel electrophoresis. They showed similar cleavage patterns when digested with EcoRI, HindIII or BamHI.

Oxidative phosphorylation in Nitrobacter winogradskyi

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology and Biological Oxidation, 1965
Summary A crude cell-free extract from Nitrobacter winogradskyi , which esterified inorganic phosphate in the course of oxidizing nitrite, had a P/O ratio of 0.17. Only fairly coarse particles were found to exhibit P/O ratios larger than 0.1.
