Oxidative Stress in Antigen Processing and Presentation

open access: yesMedComm – Oncology, Volume 4, Issue 2, June 2025.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a crucial role in antigen processing and presentation, essential for linking innate and adaptive immunity. While balanced ROS levels promote immune function, excess ROS can disrupt antigen recognition, resulting in immune dysfunction.

Systematic Review on 1,2,3‐Oxadiazoles, 1,2,4‐Oxadiazoles, and 1,2,5‐Oxadiazoles in the Antimycobacterial Drug Discovery

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 20, Issue 9, May 5, 2025.
The review focuses on relationships of oxadiazole derivative structures and their antimycobacterial activity including target structures in mycobacteria, in vitro or in vivo pharmacokinetic parameters, and toxicity. Apart from direct antimycobacterial activity, some 1,2,4‐oxadiazole derivatives can potentiate the antimycobacterial effect of ethionamide

New benzimidazole derivatives containing hydrazone group as anticancer agents: Inhibition of carbonic anhydrase IX and molecular docking studies

open access: yesArchiv der Pharmazie, Volume 358, Issue 3, March 2025.
New benzimidazole‐hydrazone derivatives (3a–3j) were designed and synthesized to investigate their effects on carbonic anhydrase (CA) IX and their anticancer activity. Compounds 3d and 3j were found to have the highest activity on CA IX and also showed anticancer properties.

ELECTROCHEMICAL INFLUENCE OF NIFUROXAZIDE ON DEHYDROGENASE ACTIVITY

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Technologies and Materials
Nifuroxazide is an antimicrobial drug from the nitrofuran group, which is used in the treatment of acute bacterial intestinal infections. Its mechanism of action is based on the reduction of the nitro group in bacterial cells, which produces reactive ...

Flavin‐Dependent Nitroreductases: Privileged Enzymes for Chemical and Photochemical Synthesis

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 17, Issue 5, March 6, 2025.
This review summarizes the functional, structural, and mechanistic properties of flavin‐dependent nitroreductases and highlights their usefulness for the synthesis of nitrogen‐containing compounds. Recent advances in enzyme and cofactor engineering, as well as in the use of nitroreductases in photobiocatalytic approaches, are emphasized.

Exploration of Novel “Ferroxazide/Ferrazone” Derivatives as Antitrypanosomatid Agents: Design, Synthesis, and Biological Efficacy

open access: yesApplied Organometallic Chemistry, Volume 39, Issue 1, January 2025.
A series of novel ferrocene derivatives, mimics of the clinical antibiotics, nifuroxazide and nitrofurazone, termed ferroxazides and ferrazones, respectively, were synthesized and evaluated for antitrypanosomatid activities. The ferroxazide 15 bearing dimethylamino moiety was identified in vitro as hit against Trypanosoma congolense strain but ...

Transfer of nitrofuran residues from parent broiler breeder chickens to broiler progeny

open access: yes, 2005
1. The use of nitrofuran antibiotics in food-producing animals is prohibited within the EU. Countries in the EU, as well those intending to export food to the EU, must ensure that their products are free from nitrofuran residues. 2. As a result of recent

Analogs of nitrofuran antibiotics are potent GroEL/ES inhibitor pro-drugs

open access: yes, 2020
In two previous studies, we identified compound 1 as a moderate GroEL/ES inhibitor with weak to moderate antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including Bacillus subtilis, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ...

A Comprehensive Review of Antibiotics and Antimicrobial Resistance in the Aquaculture Sector of the World and Bangladesh

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Antibiotics are molecules produced by a microbe to inhibit the growth of another microbe. Due to prolonged improper use, the situation in which these antibiotics do not work effectively on these microbes is termed antibiotic resistance or antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Phenotypic‐Based Discovery and Exploration of a Resorufin Scaffold with Activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 19, Issue 24, December 16, 2024.
Tuberculosis remains a leading cause of death by infectious disease. In this paper, we discuss the phenotypic‐based discovery and exploration of a resorufin scaffold with activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. These analogues are of interest as they work through an alternative, currently unknown mechanism that may expand our chemical arsenal ...
