Nitroimidazoles

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1982
Nitroimidazoles, including metronidazole, tinidazole and ornidazole, are low molecular weight antimicrobial compounds with excellent activity against anaerobic microorganisms. These compounds are usually bactericidal at low concentrations and their spectrum of activity encompasses almost all the anaerobic bacteria and some capnophylic organisms.

Nitroimidazoles and imaging hypoxia

European Journal of Nuclear Medicine, 1995
Decreased tissue oxygen tension is a component of many diseases. Although hypoxia can be secondary to a low inspired pO2 or a variety of lung disorders, the commonest cause is ischemia due to an oxygen demand greater than the local oxygen supply. In tumors, low tissue pO2 is often observed, most often due to a blood supply inadequate to meet the tumor ...

Nitroimidazole-induced chronic hepatitis

European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2001
Drug-induced chronic hepatitis is a rare pathological condition. There is no reported case with chronic hepatitis secondary to nitroimidazole use. We report a patient who developed nitroimidazole-induced chronic hepatitis following acute exacerbation of hepatitis three times after nitroimidazole use.

The mutagenic action of nitroimidazoles II. Effects of 2-nitroimidazoles

Mutation Research/Environmental Mutagenesis and Related Subjects, 1975
The 2-nitroimidazoles Ro-71051 (N-benzyl-2-nitro-1-imidazole-acetamide) and Ro-5-9963 (3(2-nitro-1-imidazolyl)-1,2-propanediol) increased the mutation rate of a Klebsiella pneumoniae mutant to streptomycin-resistance including streptomycin-dependence in Luria and Delbruck's fluctuation test in concentrations of 0.05-1 mM and 0.02-0.2 mM respectively ...

1-Trityl-4-nitroimidazole

Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 1996
X-ray analysis confirmed the configuration of the title N1-alkylated C4-nitroimidazole inhibitor. The plane of the imidazole ring, sitting on an axis of the trityl propeller, bisects the angle between two phenyl rings, while the nitro group extends over the third.

Nitroimidazoles, Part 2

Chemistry & Biodiversity, 2006
AbstractA series of 5‐alkylamino and 5‐alkylsulfanyl derivatives of 1‐aryl‐2‐alkyl‐4‐nitro‐1H‐imidazoles 12–21, 31, and 34 were synthesized by a simple method with the aim to develop novel HIV non‐nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). All the new compounds were tested against HIV‐1 and HIV‐2 in MT‐4 cells.

Electrochemical behaviour of 4-nitroimidazole and 2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole

Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry and Interfacial Electrochemistry, 1982
Abstract The electrochemical behaviour of the title imidazoles (HRNO 2 ) has been investigated in dimethylformamide and acetonitrile by polarography, cyclic voltammetry and controlled-potential electrolysis and coulometry. The above nitroimidazoles present similar behaviour, displaying two reduction waves paralleled by two reduction peaks in linear ...

Nitroimidazoles as chemotherapeutic agents

1983
During the last two decades, or, more precisely, ever since the introduction of metronidazole into therapy, nitroimidazoles as a class of compounds have attracted much attention. Nevertheless, no adequate review of this chemical class has appeared in literature, even though a large number of reviews on the chemotherapy of protozoal diseases refer to ...

Nitroimidazoles as Anti-Tumor Agents

Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry, 2011
At present cancer treatment is still a confusing problem. Great progress has been made in anti-tumor agents since a series of small molecules are approved by FDA as anti-tumor drugs. Nitroimidazoles is a kind of radiosensitizer with multiple bioactivities used in cancer treatment since 1950s.
