1. Es werden 2 Nitritbildner besprochen. Das eine nitrifizierende Bakterium wurde als Nitrosomonas europaea identifiziert; es hat ein N/C-Verhaltnis von etwa 35/1. 2. Das andere, ein ebenfalls autotrophes, nitrifizierendes Bakterium, stellt eine neue Art dar und wird mit dem Namen Nitrosomonas oligocarbogenes belegt.
