water exchange in bacterial photosynthetic reaction centers embedded in a trehalose glass studied using multiresonance EPR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Using isotope labeled water (D2O and H217O) and pulsed W-band (94 GHz) high- field multiresonance EPR spectroscopies, such as ELDOR-detected NMR and ENDOR, the biologically important question of detection and quantification of local water in proteins ...

The Syringe Nitroxide Free Radical – Part II [PDF]

open access: yesFree Radical Research Communications, 1993
Some plastic syringes introduce a nitroxide free radical into the fluids they contain. The EPR spectrum shows a triplet with aN = 17.0 +/- 0.1 G in plasma. We report here that this nitroxide/hydroxylamine couple serves as an antioxidant system, whose redox potential appears to be between that of vitamin C and vitamin E.

Unraveling Synthetase's Mode of Action: The Pyrrolysyl‐tRNA Synthetase Dimer Uses Secondary Binding Sites in the Cell

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
The pyrrolysyl‐tRNA synthetase dimer exhibits an alternating mode of action of its monomers within its catalytic cycle, which is realized upon occupation of secondary binding sites located at the intermonomer interfaces outside the catalytic binding site.

Simultaneous Imaging of Cu+ and Cu2+ in Neural Cells Using DNAzyme Probes Reveals Mechanistic Link Between Copper Redox Imbalance and Amyloid Pathology

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 14, 27 March 2026.
We develop Cu+‐ and Cu2+‐specific DNAzyme fluorescent probes to visualize both copper redox states in living neurons. Aβ oligomers cause intracellular copper overload, triggering FDX1 dependent cuproptosis and generating ROS. This work links copper redox imbalance with Aβ pathology and offers a selective, sensitive way to monitor copper homeostasis in ...

Electron Spin Resonance Spin Probe Technique for Investigating Non-TEMPO Radicals Dispersed in Nanospaces of a Crystalline Zn Complex

open access: yesConcepts in Magnetic Resonance: Part A, Bridging Education and Research
An ESR spin probe technique with non-TEMPO radicals, such as nitronyl nitroxide (NN), benzonitronyl nitroxide (BzNN), and iminonitroxide (IN) radicals, was used for a porous metal-organic framework (MOF), [(ZnI2)3(TPT)2] (ZnTPT; TPT = tris(4-pyridyl)-1,3,

Can radiosensitivity associated with defects in DNA repair be overcome by mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant radioprotectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Radiation oncologists have observed variation in normal tissue responses between patients in many instances with no apparent explanation. The association of clinical tissue radiosensitivity with specific genetic repair defects (Wegner's syndrome, Ataxia ...

Multifunctional Design of Solid Polymer Electrolytes: Paving the Way for High‐Performance All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This review provides a comprehensive and systematic overview of the multifunctional design strategies for solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs), a pivotal component for enabling high‐performance all‐solid‐state batteries (ASSBs). It begins with a detailed classification of SPE systems and elaborates on their respective molecular design principles. The work

Acidic and Electrosurface Properties of Binary TiO2-SiO2 Xerogels Using EPR of pH-Sensitive Nitroxides

open access: yesGels, 2021
The binary xerogels TiO2-SiO2 are widely used as catalysts and their carriers in organic synthesis. Characterization and adjustment of the electrostatic properties of the surface and the local acidity inside the pores, are necessary for the further ...
