In Vitro Reconstruction of Axonal Heat Sensing with a Photothermal Nerve‐on‐a‐Chip

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A photothermal nerve‐on‐a‐chip platform is presented that enables precise, localized heating of sensory axons with simultaneous electrical recording. The system reveals millisecond‐scale dynamics of heat‐evoked neural activity and provides a new approach to study how temperature‐dependent ion channel behavior is translated into axonal firing.

Sensory profile of cats with potential pain‐related diabetic neuropathy

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) can cause peripheral neuropathy. This study aimed to evaluate sensory function by measuring the mechanical nociceptive thresholds (MNT) and diffuse noxious inhibitory control (DNIC) of cats with diabetes mellitus (DMcats).

Clinical reasoning in feline non‐ambulatory tetraparesis or tetraplegia: Which combination of clinical information is useful?

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Non‐ambulatory tetraparesis or tetraplegia in cats may constitute a diagnostic challenge for general practitioners. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate if clinical variables from signalment, history, clinical examination and basic ancillary tests are associated with underlying diagnoses in cats with non‐ambulatory tetraparesis ...

A Multimodal Deep Learning Approach to Intraoperative Nociception Monitoring: Integrating Electroencephalogram, Photoplethysmography, and Electrocardiogram

open access: yesSensors
Monitoring nociception under general anesthesia remains challenging due to the complexity of pain pathways and the limitations of single-parameter methods.

Models of Visceral Nociception [PDF]

open access: yesILAR Journal, 1999
Pains arising from the viscera constitute a large portion of clinically treated pains. They are characterized by poor localization; immobility with tonic increases in muscle tone; and vigorous but nonspecific changes in autonomic function, such as changes in respiration, heart rate, and blood pressure.

Validity assessment for technical skills and stress management of the HelpMeSee® Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery module

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To assess the validity of the HelpMeSee Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) module as a virtual reality training tool for technical skills and stress management in ophthalmology. Methods This prospective study enrolled 47 volunteer surgeons from five groups: four groups of eye surgeons with increasing experience (novice ...

Lateral hypothalamic fast-spiking parvalbumin neurons modulate nociception through connections in the periaqueductal gray area

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
A pivotal role of the lateral hypothalamus (LH) in regulating appetitive and reward-related behaviors has been evident for decades. However, the contributions of LH circuits to other survival behaviors have been less explored. Here we examine how lateral

Antinociceptive activity of the ethanolic extract, fractions, and aggregatin D isolated from Sinningia aggregata tubers.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The present study investigated the effects of the ethanolic extract (ESa), fractions, and compounds isolated from Sinningia aggregata in male Swiss mice on carrageenan-induced paw edema, neutrophil migration, mechanical hyperalgesia, formalin-induced ...
