Single-molecule imaging with longer X-ray laser pulses

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2015
During the last five years, serial femtosecond crystallography using X-ray laser pulses has been developed into a powerful technique for determining the atomic structures of protein molecules from micrometre- and sub-micrometre-sized crystals. One of the

In-fiber subpicosecond pulse shaping for nonlinear optical telecommunication data processing at 640 Gbit/s [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We review recent work on all-fiber (long-period fiber grating) devices for optical pulse shaping, particularly flat-top pulse generation, down to the subpicosecond range and their application for nonlinear switching (demultiplexing) of optical time ...

A Bidirectional Mode-Locked Fiber Laser for Asynchronous Noise-like Pulse Generation

open access: yesPhotonics
We demonstrate a bidirectional fiber laser with an artificial saturable absorber of a step-index multimode fiber sandwiched by single-mode fibers. Two asynchronous noise-like pulse sequences with a repetition frequency difference of 3.16 kHz are obtained.

Jitter-Robust Orthogonal Hermite Pulses for Ultra-Wideband Impulse Radio Communications

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2005
The design of a class of jitter-robust, Hermite polynomial-based, orthogonal pulses for ultra-wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) communications systems is presented.

Dynamic Observation of Ultrashort Pulses with Chaotic Features in a Tm-Doped Fiber Laser with a Single Mode Fiber–Grade Index Multimode Fiber–Single Mode Fiber Structure

open access: yesPhotonics
In this study, we have demonstrated an ultrafast Tm-doped fiber laser utilizing the nonlinear multimode interference (NL-MMI) effect, with a single mode fiber–grade index multimode fiber–single mode fiber (SMF-GIMF-SMF) structure serving as the saturable

Fiber-laser-generated Noise-like Pulses and Their Applications

open access: yes, 2016
We describe generation and amplification of mediumand high-energy noise-like pulses (NLPs) using Yb-doped optical fibers. We also demonstrate supercontinuum (SC) genera‐ tion techniques in which NLPs serve as the pump. SC pumped by NLPs has been em‐ ployed successfully in optical coherence tomography systems.

Observation and optimization of 2 μm mode-locked pulses in all-fiber net anomalous dispersion laser cavity

open access: yesOpto-Electronic Advances, 2020
We integrally demonstrate 2 μm mode-locked pulses performances in all-fiber net anomalous dispersion cavity. Stable mode-locking operations with the center wavelength around 1950-1980 nm can be achieved by using the nonlinear polarization rotation ...

Buildup dynamics of broadband Q-switched noise-like pulse

open access: yes, 2021
We investigate the buildup dynamics of broadband Q-switched noise-like pulse (QS-NLP) driven by slow gain dynamics in a microfiber-based passively mode-locked fiber laser. Based on shot-to-shot tracing of the transient optical spectra and qualitatively reproduced numerial simulation, we demonstrate that slow gain dynamics is deeply involved in the ...
