Ship propeller side effects: pressure pulses and radiated noise
The present paper deals with the side effects of propellers cavitation, i.e. pressure pulses and radiated noise. These effects are gaining more and more importance for commercial ships for different reasons.

Random Search Algorithm-Assisted Automatic Mode-Locked Fiber Lasers
Automatic mode-locking is a crucial approach for achieving ultrashort pulses in fiber lasers. Here, a random search algorithm was developed, and an automatic mode-locked laser was constructed.

Observation of Duration-Tunable Soliton Explosion in Passively Mode-Locked Fiber Laser
We report on the first observation, to the best of our knowledge, of soliton explosions in an ultrafast fiber laser mode-locked by nonlinear polarization evolution.

Generation of noise-like pulses with 203 nm 3-dB bandwidth
Raman-scattering-assisted noise-like pulse (NLP) generation was achieved by using an appropriate segment of high nonlinearity fiber in an erbium-doped fiber laser. Broadband spectrum with 203 nm 3-dB bandwidth was obtained, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the broadest bandwidth achieved for NLPs.

Retiming of short pulses using quadratic cascading in a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide
We demonstrate an all-optical technique for the mitigation of timing jitter in short pulse transmission systems. The technique relies on pulse preshaping followed by optical switching in a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide via cascaded second ...

Versatile patterns of multiple rectangular noise-like pulses in a fiber laser
We report on the generation of versatile patterns of multiple rectangular noise-like pulses (NLPs) in a fiber laser mode-locked by nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM). Benefiting from the strengthened nonlinear effect of a segment of highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) in the loop, multiple rectangular NLPs with various patterns are formed depending on ...

Nanosecond electric pulses penetrate the nucleus and enhance speckle formation
Nanosecond electric pulses generate nanopores in the interior membranes of cells and modulate cellular functions. Here, we used confocal microscopy and flow cytometry to observe Smith antigen antibody (Y12) binding to nuclear speckles, known as small ...

Linear-distortion compensation using XPM with parabolic pulses [PDF]
We experimentally demonstrate a novel all-optical, all-fiberized scheme that can eliminate linear perturbations in the time domain. The technique relies on converting these distortions from time to frequency domain using parabolic pulses shaped using ...

Radar Emitter Recognition Based on Spiking Neural Networks
Efficient and effective radar emitter recognition is critical for electronic support measurement (ESM) systems. However, in complex electromagnetic environments, intercepted pulse trains generally contain substantial data noise, including spurious and ...
