Contribution of sex and body constitution to three-dimensional lower extremity alignment for healthy, elderly, non-obese humans in a Japanese population

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics, 2018
Background Humans support their bodies exclusively by vertical balance in bipedal locomotion, and the body, especially the lower extremity, generally changes with age. Sex and body constitution are assumed to be associated with lower extremity alignment,

A pivotal-based approach for enterprise business process and IS integration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A company must be able to describe and react against any endogenous or exogenous event. Such flexibility can be achieved through business process management (BPM).

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

A kinematic study of Open Clusters: implications for their origin

open access: yes, 2010
The Galactic population of open clusters provides an insight into star formation in the Galaxy. The open cluster catalogue by Dias et al.(2002b) is a rich source of data, including kinematic information.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Extracting the Non-ObservableStates in Alignment & Calibration Process for Gimballed Inertial Navigation Systems [PDF]

open access: yesفصلنامه علوم و فناوری فضایی, 2014
This paper presents a method for calculation the non observable states in alignment and calibration process in gimballed inertial navigation system, using estimation method in static linear system and heuristic optimization algorithms. The non observable

Immersed boundary method predictions of shear stresses for different flow topologies occuring in cerebral aneurysms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A volume-penalizing immersed boundary method is presented that facilitates the computation of incompressible fluid flow in complex flow domains. We apply this method to simulate the flow in cerebral aneurysms, and focus on the accuracy with which the ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
