Metabolism of non-esterified fatty acids in diabetes

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1961
Abstract A long-term infusion of heparin in the course of post-alimentary lipaemia is replaced by a direct infusion of NEFA into the blood stream. An enhanced removal of NEFA from the circulation was observed in diabetic subjects, compared with non-diabetic subjects, though the concentration of NEFA on fasting was higher in diabetic patients.

Plasma non-esterified fatty acids in sheep

Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1960
Concentrations of plasma non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) in sheep were found to be within the range 0.1–0.9 m-equiv/l. Relatively high levels (1.0–2.5 m-equiv/l) occurred in pregnant and non-pregnant sheep when fasted. Intravenous injection of glucose (1.0 g/kg body wt.) depressed KEFA concentrations to levels of about 0.05 m-equiv/l.

PLASMA NON-ESTERIFIED FATTY ACID LEVELS IN HYPOPITUITARY SUBJECTS

Journal of Endocrinology, 1966
SUMMARY Changes in the plasma levels of non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) in a group of patients with proven hypopituitarism have been compared with those found in control subjects during prolonged fasting, after the injection of insulin and after the oral administration of glucose with and without the previous administration of insulin.
