Association Between Individualized Education for Kidney Replacement Therapy Modality Selection and Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an established home‐based kidney replacement therapy (KRT), but its uptake remains low in Japan. We evaluated whether individualized education in a dedicated outpatient clinic was associated with the initiation of PD.

The association between the ZJU index and short-term prognosis in patients with acute ischemic stroke: a cohort study

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the ZJU index—a composite metabolic indicator integrating fasting plasma glucose, body mass index, ALT/AST ratio, and triglycerides—as a predictor of short-term functional outcomes in patients with Acute Ischemic ...

Effect of DFPP on Ferroptosis in Peripheral Blood CD14+ Monocytes of Hyperlipidemic Patients Involving the ACSL4/LPCAT3/ALOX5 Pathway

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although statins are the cornerstone of lipid‐lowering therapy, their use may be limited in some patients by adverse effects. This study evaluated the possible impact of non‐drug treatment using double‐filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) on CD14+

Non-linear dynamics of a thermomechanical pseudoelastic oscillator excited by non-ideal energy sources

open access: yes, 2015
This paper discusses the non-linear dynamical response of a shape-memory non-ideal oscillator. The non-ideal excitation originates from a DC electric motor with limited power supply driving an unbalanced rotating mass. The restoring force provided by the

Reproductive lifespan and cardiovascular health in postmenopausal women: a non-linear, behavior-driven association with cross-population validation

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
BackgroundReproductive lifespan (RLS), the interval from menarche to natural menopause, has been associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. However, most prior studies have assumed a linear relationship, and the potential non-linearity of this ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Non-linear-enabled localization in driven-dissipative photonic lattices

open access: yes
Recent experimental work has demonstrated the ability to achieve reconfigurable photon localization in lossy photonic lattices by continuously driving them with lasers strategically positioned at specific locations.

Features of the Association between Debt and Earnings Quality for Small and Medium-Sized Entities

open access: yesRisks
The main source of financing is bank loans for Portuguese small and medium-sized entities (SMEs), which implies several constraints to obtaining additional funds. Relying on the argument of Positive Accounting Theory (PAT) that accounting choices are not

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
