New insights of heterogeneous nucleation and anisotropic growth of acicular ferrite on non-metallic inclusion

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2022
This work studies the acicular ferrite (AF) nucleation and growth from a classical defect, i.e. non-metallic inclusion surface. The heterogeneous AF-nucleation probability on NMI is predicted by a mathematical model following the classical nucleation ...

Effect of non-metallic inclusions on cleavage fracture

open access: yesMaterials Science and Technology, 1986
Abstract The effect of non-metallic inclusions on cleavage in wrought steel has been studied using a resulphurized mild steel. The cleavage fracture stress was measured at –196°C and found to exhibit an orientation dependence which is attributed to the morphology of the inclusions.

Non-metallic inclusions and plasticity of steels

open access: yes, 2020
The problems of the influence of non-metallic inclusions in the technological plasticity and mechanical properties of steels are discussed. The results of the study of deformation and destruction of non-metallic inclusions in steel treatment pressure in various conditions were listed.

Numerical Analysis of RTD Curves and Inclusions Removal in a Multi-Strand Asymmetric Tundish with Different Configuration of Impact Pad

open access: yesMetals, 2020
To effectively remove non-metallic inclusions from the steel during the flowing in a five-strand asymmetric tundish, the novel configuration of the impact pad was developed. For analysis, complex numerical modelling in the programme ANSYS Fluent was used.

Research on Intelligent Identification and Grading of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Steels Based on Deep Learning

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
Non-metallic inclusions are unavoidable defects in steel, and their type, quantity, size, and distribution have a great impact on the quality of steel. At present, non-metallic inclusions are mainly detected manually, which features high work intensity ...

Deformation and fracture of non-metallic inclusions in steel at different temperatures

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
Experiments were carried out to investigate the deformation and fracture of non-metallic inclusions in steel at different temperatures. The deformation of inclusions at high temperature could be characterized by viscosity.

Influence of Non-Metallic Inclusions on Very High-Cycle Fatigue Performance of High-Strength Steels and Interpretation via Crystal Plasticity Finite Element Method

open access: yesMetals
The fatigue behaviors of high-strength bearing steel were investigated with rotating bending fatigue loading with a frequency of 52.5 Hz. It was revealed that the high-strength steel tended to initiate at interior non-metallic inclusions in a very high ...
