Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Modification of Non-Metallic Inclusions in Stainless Steel by Addition of CaSi

open access: yesMetals, 2019
The focus of this study involved comparative investigations of non-metallic inclusions in 316L stainless steel bars without and with Ca treatments. The inclusions were extracted by using electrolytic extraction (EE).

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

New insights of heterogeneous nucleation and anisotropic growth of acicular ferrite on non-metallic inclusion

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2022
This work studies the acicular ferrite (AF) nucleation and growth from a classical defect, i.e. non-metallic inclusion surface. The heterogeneous AF-nucleation probability on NMI is predicted by a mathematical model following the classical nucleation ...

Effect of non-metallic inclusions on cleavage fracture

open access: yesMaterials Science and Technology, 1986
Abstract The effect of non-metallic inclusions on cleavage in wrought steel has been studied using a resulphurized mild steel. The cleavage fracture stress was measured at –196°C and found to exhibit an orientation dependence which is attributed to the morphology of the inclusions.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Effect of the morphologies of non-metallic inclusions on their removal behavior

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2016
The differences in shape correction coefficient(SCC) of common inclusions in molten steel including spherical, cubic, cylindrical, dendritic and cluster particles were studied by a physical simulation method.

Evolution of oxide–CaS complex inclusions during protective atmosphere electroslag remelting

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2020
The inclusions in the consumable steel electrode and electroslag remelted steel were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS).

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.
