Stewardship of Test-Free Nuclear Arsenals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Maintaining nuclear arms in the current policy environment that frowns upon weapons testing coexists with a set of unresolved and disquieting issues regarding the disposition of test-free arsenals.

The GIBACHT fellowship: a multilateral initiative for strengthening capacity in biosafety and biosecurity towards pandemic preparedness

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
The German Biosecurity Programme was launched in 2013 with the aim to support partner countries overcome biological threats including natural outbreaks or the intentional misuse of highly pathogenic agents. As part of this programme, this paper describes

The evolution of the U.S. nuclear non-proliferation policy in the 1970s

open access: yesJournal of Human Environmental Studies, 2009
This paper examines (1) how the Ford Administration tried to persuade South Korea to give up obtaining the spent nuclear fuel reprocessing plant and their related technologies, which were one of the most sensitive among peaceful nuclear use, and (2) how ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Dispositioning military plutonium to promote nuclear non-proliferation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Given that all chemical varieties of plutonium can be used in nuclear weapons, sophisticated measures are required to disposition it so that its potential to contribute to horizontal and vertical nuclear proliferation is minimised.

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Assessing the Heat Transfer Modeling Capabilities of CFD Software for Involute-Shaped Plate Research Reactors

open access: yesEnergies
The ongoing efforts to convert High-Performance Research Reactors (HPRRs) using Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) to Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) fuel require reliable thermal–hydraulic assessments of modified core designs. The involute-shaped fuel plates used

UNVEILING DUALITIES: US RHETORIC AND REALITY IN GLOBAL NUCLEAR NON-PROLIFERATION UNDER TRUMP AND BIDEN ADMINISTRATIONS

open access: yesMargalla Papers, 2023
The image the United States has always projected of itself in the international community is that of a state that is nuclear responsible and bears the responsibility to keep nuclear proliferation in check.

Sclerosing Angiomatoid Nodular Transformation: A Series of Four Cases [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Among the primary non haematopoietic neoplasms of the spleen, vascular neoplasms are the most common. These vascular neoplasms consist of haemangiomas, littoral cell angiomas, lymphangiomas, Splenic Hamartomas (SHs), haemangioendotheliomas, angiosarcomas

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...
