Effects of Survey Design Features on Response Rates: A Meta-Analytical Approach Using the Example of Crime Surveys

open access: yesSurvey Research Methods
When conducting a survey, many choices regarding survey design features have to be made. These choices affect the response rate of a survey. This paper analyzes the individual effects of these survey design features on the response rate.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Non-linear plasmon response to protein binding at a nanostructured gold particle plasmon resonance surface

open access: yes, 2007
Rapid adsorption kinetics have been observed for protein binding to a 800 nm aggregated nanoparticle, showing extreme sensitivity resulting from a non-linear particle plasmon ...

Understanding how kurtosis is transferred from input acceleration to stress response and it's influence on fatigue life

open access: yes, 2013
High cycle fatigue of metals typically occurs through long term exposure to time varying loads which, although modest in amplitude, give rise to microscopic cracks that can ultimately propagate to failure.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Accountability to disaster-affected populations

open access: yes, 2010
The hardest aspect of accountability to disaster-affected persons seems to be managing the tensions between the timeliness and the quality of a ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Non-linearities in the thermoacoustic response of a premixed swirl burner

open access: yes, 2009
PhDLean premixed combustion remains one of the simplest and most effective methods of reducing NOx emissions in industrial gas turbines. Lean premixed flames are however prone to an undesirable side effect known as combustion instability, reducing ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...
