The potential of ion mobility–mass spectrometry for non-targeted metabolomics

Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, 2018
Non-targeted analysis of metabolites in hypothesis-generating workflows has proven its potential to answer essential questions that arise when dealing with complex biological systems. Nevertheless, tracking changes in perturbed systems via accurate quantification and the identification process itself represent the most critical challenges in these ...

Development of a practical metabolite identification technique for non-targeted metabolomics

Journal of Chromatography A, 2013
Metabolite identification is one of the major challenges of non-targeted metabolomics involving liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Compound databases contain enormous numbers of records, which makes compound identification difficult in practice because each search will return a large number of candidates.

Metabotypes of breast cancer cell lines revealed by non-targeted metabolomics

Metabolic Engineering, 2017
We present an analysis of intracellular metabolism by non-targeted, high-throughput metabolomics profiling of 18 breast cell lines. We profiled >900 putatively annotated metabolite ions for >100 samples collected under both normoxic and hypoxic conditions and revealed extensive heterogeneity across all metabolic pathways and cell lines.

The Use of Non-targeted Metabolomics in Plant Science

2006
FT-ICR MS has many applications within plant sciences. The major advantage for utilizing FT-ICR MS technology is the ability to monitor global system changes in a non-targeted manner. It is the non-targeted approach that allows the visualization of changes of both known and unknown or unexpected metabolites, allowing the researcher to then focus or ...

How Unbiased is Non-Targeted Metabolomics and is Targeted Pathway Screening the Solution?

Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2011
Metabolomics is only truly unbiased if the whole metabolome is captured. Current metabolomics technologies capture only a part of the metabolome and therefore produce inherently biased results. Important factors that introduce such bias into a metabolomic analysis may include but are not limited to, timing of sample collection, the sample collection ...

Analysis of ischemic stroke biomarkers based on non-targeted metabolomics

Chinese Journal of Chromatography
Biomarkers for ischemic stroke (IS) are yet to fulfill clinical requirements. This study used non-targeted metabolomics to investigate differential metabolites and metabolic pathways in plasma and brain tissue following IS, with the aim of identifying new potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Twelve Tibetan miniature pigs were randomly assigned

Non-targeted metabolomic analysis of Xueshuantong injection in patients with STEMI

Fitoterapia
Xueshuantong injection (XST) is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, particularly in the context of acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). This study aimed to explore the therapeutic mechanism of XST on STEMI by conducting a metabolomics analysis of plasma samples from 23 patients ...

Analysis of blood biochemistry and non-targeted metabolomics of endometritis in dairy cows

Animal Reproduction Science
The incidence of bovine endometritis, which has a negative impact on the reproduction of dairy cows, has been recently increasing. In this study, the differential markers and metabolites of healthy cows and cows with endometritis were analyzed by measuring blood biochemical indicators and immune factors using biochemical and enzyme-linked immunosorbent
