Strategy to improve the confidence level of qualitative screening by high resolution mass spectrometry: A case study of mycotoxins in maize

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
Targeted, suspect and non-targeted screening by high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) is developing rapidly. In this study, a qualitative screening method was established using HPLC-HRMS on data dependent acquisition for the analysis of mycotoxins in ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Non-targeted HIV testing in the emergency department: not just how but where

open access: yes, 2018
Introduction: The emergency department (ED) has the potential to enhance early HIV diagnosis through HIV testing programs. How these are implemented is a subject of debate.

Screening for health risks: A social science perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Health screening promises to reduce risks to individuals via probabilistic sifting of populations for medical conditions. The categorisation and selection of 'conditions' such as cardiovascular events, dementia and depression for screening itself ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Adjusting the frequency of mammography screening on the basis of genetic risk: Attitudes among women in the UK.

open access: yes, 2015
Purpose To explore public attitudes towards modifying frequency of mammography screening based on genetic risk. Methods Home-based interviews were carried out with a population-based sample of 942 women aged 18–74 years in the UK.

Expanded Carrier Screening in Chinese Population – A Survey on Views and Acceptance of Pregnant and Non-Pregnant Women

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2020
ObjectiveRecessive genetic diseases impose physical and psychological impacts to both newborns and parents who may not be aware of being carriers. Expanded carrier screening (ECS) allows screening for multiple genetic conditions at the same time. Whether

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Screening older people for impaired vision [PDF]

open access: yes
A systematic review of trials about screening older people for visual impairment found no evidence that screening improved vision. We undertook a new trial nested within a larger cluster randomised trial of multidimensional ...
