Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Numerical Analysis of Time-Accurate Solution of Nonlinear Flow Models by Implicit Finite Differences

open access: yes, 2003
Implicit finite differences are often applied to solve flow models. A standard technique to solve these equations is Newton\u27s method. lf time step is too large although the difference equation could be computationally stable, Newton\u27s method may ...

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

A nonlinear control system with a Hilfer derivative and its optimization

open access: yes, 2019
In this work, we consider a fractional optimal control problem (FOCP) containing a nonlinear control system, described by a differential equation involving a Hilfer derivative, and an integral cost functional.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Nonnegative solutions for a system of impulsive BVPs with nonlinear nonlocal BCs

open access: yes, 2014
We study the existence of nonnegative solutions for a system of impulsive differential equations subject to nonlinear, nonlocal boundary conditions. The system presents a coupling in the differential equation and in the boundary conditions. The main

Study on a class of Schrödinger elliptic system involving a nonlinear operator

open access: yes, 2020
This paper considers a class of Schrödinger elliptic system involving a nonlinear operator. Firstly, under the simple condition on and \u27, we prove the existence of the entire positive bounded radial solutions.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

A Nonlinear Model for Topsoil Erosion Caused by Heavy Rain

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper, a nonlinear mathematical model is proposed and analysed to study the effect of heavy rain on the topsoil erosion and crop-yield. It is shown that as the velocity of rain water along the soil surface increases, the fertile topsoil depth ...

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...
