Cascadability of nonlinear-optical-loop-mirror wavelength converters

Optical Amplifiers and Their Applications, 2001
Signal transmission through cascaded nonlinear optical loop mirrors (NOLM’s) is theoretically studied. Numerical simulation shows that pulse trains can be transmitted over many NOLM’s with suppressed intensity noise when the operation condition is optimally chosen.

Magneto-optic nonlinear optical loop mirror for all-optical 3R signal regeneration

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2014
A magneto-optic nonlinear optical loop mirror using intrinsic Faraday effect of fibers is proposed. Magnetically controllable regeneration experiment is carried out and the receiver sensitivity is further improved by 1.7dB under 200Gs magnetic field.

Optimal loop length of a nonlinear optical loop mirror in switching solitons

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1998
The optimal loop length of a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) for switching solitons was investigated numerically for the case where the wavelengths of the control pulse and signal soliton straddle the dispersion zero. In our analysis, the Raman effect is also included because the wavelength difference between the control and signal pulses is ...

Nonlinear optical loop mirror with low birefringence twisted fiber in the loop

Optics Communications, 1998
Abstract The fiber loop mirror constructed from low-birefringence twisted fiber was numerically examined. Nonlinear ellipse rotation effect has been taken into account. Nonlinear switching has been found for the balanced configuration with a 0.5/0.5 coupler.

Nonlinear optical loop mirror using the nonlinear polarization rotation effect

Optics Communications, 1997
Abstract The effect of nonlinear polarization rotation in a fiber loop mirror constricted from a low-birefringent fiber was numerically examined. We have shown that it provides in itself the intensity variation of the transmission coefficient from 1 to 0 in the configuration with a 0.5 0.5 coupler and a birefringent bias rotating polarization ...

Dual-control nonlinear optical loop mirror for all-optical demultiplexing

Proceedings of 1997 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference, 2002
This paper proposes a novel dual-control nonlinear optical loop mirror configuration for all-optical demultiplexing. It is shown that the crosstalk arising from unwanted cross-phase-modulation is inherently removed, and the maximum jitter tolerance can be obtained without on/off degradation.

All-optical wavelength conversion based on a nonlinear optical loop mirror

Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on ... and Fourth Optoelectronics and Communications Conference on Communications,, 1999
Gives a mathematical description of the NOLM considering different exemplary parameters. The results show an balance between the walk-off value and the initial time delay, also we find that proper fiber length gives better output.

Retrieving Optical Pulse Profiles Using a Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2007
A novel technique is proposed to characterize the power profile of short optical pulses using the transmission characteristic of a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM). Under some assumptions, the power profile can be retrieved from pulse energy measurements at the NOLM output using a slow detection setup.

Experimental cascaded operation of low-birefringence nonlinear-optical loop mirrors

Optics Letters, 1996
We experimentally demonstrate the operation of a low-birefringence (low-bi) nonlinear-optical loop mirror (NOLM) that has the advantages of low switching energy, tolerance to timing jitter, and cascadability. Because cascading two all-optical logic gates is an important step toward high-speed optical signal processing and header processing in time ...

Self-switching of optical pulses in dispersion-imbalanced nonlinear loop mirrors

Optics Letters, 1997
We report a novel nonlinear filter that transmits and shortens incident pulses while rejecting cw background as well as resonant continuum. A relative extinction of 22dB is reported for the cw background.
