Absorber-Free Mode-Locking of a Hybrid Integrated Diode Laser at Sub-GHz Repetition Rate

open access: yesPhotonics
We demonstrate absorber-free passive and hybrid mode-locking at sub-GHz repetition rates, using a hybrid integrated extended cavity diode laser operating near 1550 nm.

Intermolecular Interactions as Driving Force of Increasing Multiphoton Absorption in a Perylene Diimide‐Based Coordination Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the unexplored role of intermolecular interactions in multiphoton absorption in coordination polymers. By analyzing [Zn2tpda(DMA)2(DMF)0.3], it shows how the electronic coupling of the chromophores and confinement in the MOF enhance two‐and three‐photon absorption.

Characterization of Orbital Angular Momentum Beams by Polar Mapping and Fourier Transform

open access: yesPhotonics
The recognition, decoding and tracking of vortex patterns is of increasing importance in many fields, ranging from the astronomical observations of distant galaxies to turbulence phenomena in liquids or gases. Currently, coherent light beams with orbital

Ring for test of nonlinear integrable optics

open access: yes, 2011
Nonlinear optics is a promising idea potentially opening the path towards achieving super high beam intensities in circular accelerators. Creation of a tune spread reaching 50% of the betatron tune would provide strong Landau damping and make the beam ...

Modulational instability, solitons and beam propagation in spatially nonlocal nonlinear media

open access: yes, 2004
We present an overview of recent advances in the understanding of optical beams in nonlinear media with a spatially nonlocal nonlinear response. We discuss the impact of nonlocality on the modulational instability of plane waves, the collapse of finite ...

Synchrotron Radiation for Quantum Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Materials and interfaces underpin quantum technologies, with synchrotron and FEL methods key to understanding and optimizing them. Advances span superconducting and semiconducting qubits, 2D materials, and topological systems, where strain, defects, and interfaces govern performance.

Large nonlinear Kerr effect in graphene

open access: yes, 2012
Under strong laser illumination, few-layer graphene exhibits both a transmittance increase due to saturable absorption and a nonlinear phase shift.

High-Order Harmonics Generation Using Spherical and Non-Spherical Nanoparticles

open access: yesNanomaterials
The conversion efficiency of 800 nm, 65 fs radiation toward high-order harmonic generation (HHG) in laser-induced plasmas containing spherical and non-spherical nanoparticles (NPs) produced during the laser ablation of different metals in water using ...

Interactions of accessible solitons with interfaces in anisotropic media: the case of uniaxial nematic liquid crystals

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2013
We investigate, both theoretically and experimentally, spatial soliton interaction with dielectric interfaces in a strongly anisotropic medium with non-locality, such as nematic liquid crystals. We throw light on the role of refractive index gradients as
