Recent developments and advances in artificial saturable absorber for mode-locking in fiber lasers

open access: yesResults in Engineering
In this work, we review recent work developments in artificial saturable absorbers (SAs) for ultrafast fiber lasers. The working principles of each technique, namely nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR), nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) and ...

Ultrafast optical switching based on nonlinear polarization rotation in silicon waveguides

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
We experimentally realize ultrafast all-optical switching in the 1.5-microm spectral region using cross-phase modulation inside a 5-mm long silicon waveguide. Modulation depths of up to 90% and switching window durations approximately 1 ps are achieved using 500-fs pump pulses with energies below 10 pJ.

Stochastic theory of polarized light in nonlinear birefringent media: An application to optical rotation

open access: yes, 2018
A stochastic theory is developed for the light transmitting the optical media exhibiting linear and nonlinear birefringence. The starting point is the two--component nonlinear Schr{"o}dinger equation (NLSE).

All-normal-dispersion nonlinear polarization rotation mode-locked Tm:ZBLAN fiber laser

open access: yesOptics Express, 2019
We demonstrated an all-normal-dispersion nonlinear polarization rotation mode-locked Tm:ZBLAN fiber laser in the 2 μm wavelength band. All fibers in the experiment were ZBLAN fibers with normal dispersion in the wavelength band. An average power of 63 mW with a characteristic cat-ear shaped optical spectrum of an ANDi laser was obtained.
