PLK4 is a potential therapeutic target in nonmelanoma skin cancers: Evidence from molecular and in vivo studies

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation is the main etiologic driver of nonmelanoma skin cancers (NMSCs), including basal cell (BCC) and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCC), which are the most prevalent types of cancers in the US. In this study, we demonstrate that the serine/threonine kinase Polo‐like kinase 4 (PLK4) is overexpressed in NMSCs ...

Cost-effectiveness of surgical excision versus Mohs micrographic surgery for nonmelanoma skin cancer: A retrospective cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Research in Medical Sciences, 2016
Background: Nonmelanoma skin cancer rates are increasing worldwide. Mohs micrographic surgery and surgical excision (SE) are the two treatment methods for this type of cancer.

Immunomodulatory effects of photodynamic therapy for skin cancer: Potential strategies to improve treatment efficacy and tolerability

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a nonscarring treatment modality that is widely used for skin cancers and early squamous precursor lesions. PDT was previously thought to work primarily by killing cancer cells directly (via apoptosis or necrosis). However, more recent work indicates that a significant mechanism for PDT is the stimulation of anti‐cancer ...

Peculiar features of non-melanoma skin cancers in organ transplant patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016

Clinical benefit and predictors of response to momelotinib after ruxolitinib failure: A cooperative real‐world study

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue 10, 15 May 2026.
Momelotinib demonstrated robust real‐world activity after ruxolitinib failure, with clinically meaningful improvements in spleen (≥50% spleen length reduction, 30.0%), symptoms (≥50% total symptoms score reduction, 39.2%), and anemia (major response, 35.7%) at 6 months.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 5, Page 1323-1346, May 2026.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.
