This paper describes an analog switch capable of retaining its state even when powered off. It is in fact a floating gate transistor whose floating gate charge is programmed through a memory cell by means of Fowler-Nordheim tunneling. Its nonvolatile characteristic makes it very useful in low power consumption applications.

NONVOLATILE SPINTRONICS: PERSPECTIVES ON INSTANT-ON NONVOLATILE NANOELECTRONIC SYSTEMS
SPIN, 2012Instant-on nonvolatile electronics, which can be powered on/off instantaneously without the loss of information, represents a new and emerging paradigm in electronics. Nonvolatile circuits consisting of volatile CMOS, combined with nonvolatile nanoscale magnetic memory, can make electronics nonvolatile at the gate, circuit and system levels. When high

Nonvolatile power gating with MTJ based nonvolatile flip-flops for a microprocessor
2017 IEEE 6th Non-Volatile Memory Systems and Applications Symposium (NVMSA), 2017This paper describes an approach to combine spintransfer torque Magnetic Tunnel Junction (MTJ) based non-volatile flip-flops (NVFFs) with power gating techniques to enable anytime power-off and instant power-on. We analyzed the NVFFs which are expected to realize nonvolatile power gating (NVPG) for a microprocessor.

Nonvolatile repair caches repair embedded SRAM and new nonvolatile memories
19th IEEE International Symposium on Defect and Fault Tolerance in VLSI Systems, 2004. DFT 2004. Proceedings., 2004Nonvolatile repair caches require less area than traditional row, column, or block redundancy schemes, to repair random defective memory cells in deep submicron embedded SRAMs and new nonvolatile memories such as FeRAM, MRAM, and OUM. Small memories with few defects can be repaired efficiently in real time by the direct mapped nonvolatile repair cache ...

The zen of nonvolatile memories
Proceedings of the 43rd annual conference on Design automation - DAC '06, 2006Silicon technology based nonvolatile memories (NVM) have achieved widespread adoption for code and data storage applications. In the last 30 years, the traditional floating gate bitcell has been scaled following Moore's law, but recently scaling limits have been encountered which will require alternative solutions after the 65 nm technology node.

Volatile and nonvolatile nitrosamines in beer
Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology, 1991The occurrence of N-nitroso compounds was investigated at different stages in the production of four different beer types and in 14 retail beer samples. Only two N-nitroso compounds, namely N-nitrosodimethylamine (0.17 +/- 0.18 microgram/kg; not detected to 0.60 microgram/kg) and N-nitrosoproline (1.51 +/- 1.01 micrograms/kg; range 0.5-3.60 micrograms ...

Nonvolatile functional molecular liquids
Chemical Communications, 2013The realisation of technologically high potential molecular materials as an innovative replacement for currently used materials requires sensible molecular design and subtle implementation. One such research concept "liquid chemistry" has recently been introduced as a third-generation of liquid materials after the first and second generations of ...

Design of nonvolatile MRAM bitcell
2017 7th International Symposium on Embedded Computing and System Design (ISED), 2017Although Moore's law has been the most pursued principle since ever; it has become troublesome to apply that on the traditional MOS structures in today's scenario. Striking increment in the subthreshold leakage current, and various other disadvantages like gate-dielectric leakage gate-induced drain leakage (GIDL) are the major factors which limit the ...

Design of nonvolatile processors and applications
2016 IFIP/IEEE International Conference on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI-SoC), 2016Energy harvesting is under intense investigation as a promising substitute for batteries. However, given the erratic nature of ambient energy sources, temporary status in conventional CMOS circuits can be lost upon a sudden power outage. Taking advantage of emerging nonvolatile memories (NVMs), nonvolatile processor (NVP) backs up system contexts when ...

Nonvolatile photorefractive spectral holography
Optics Letters, 1998We demonstrate nonvolatile storage of femtosecond pulses in a photorefractive LiNbO(3) crystal with recording and readout of spectral holograms at wavelengths of 460 and 920 nm, respectively. No degradation was observed after 24 h of continuous readout.
