Bioavailability of norethindrone and menstrual pattern after insertion of norethindrone acetate implants in rhesus monkeys

Contraception, 1991
Subdermal silastic implants releasing norethindrone acetate were inserted in five rhesus monkeys for a period of seven months. The serum norethindrone (NET) levels were estimated from blood samples collected fortnightly. There was an initial high level of NET followed by fluctuating levels of NET in 4 out of five monkeys.

Norethindrone with Estrogen as an Oral Contraceptive

Southern Medical Journal, 1963
The major properties and contraceptive efficacy of progestational hormones are reviewed. The effectiveness of these hormones is compared with that of other modern methods of contraception and results of a study involving the use of norethindrone in low dosage in conjunction with a small quantity of estrogen are presented.

[Pharmacokinetics of norethindrone-3-oxime and norethindrone in rhesus monkeys].

Yao xue xue bao = Acta pharmaceutica Sinica, 1991
After intravenous administration or nasal feeding of (6, 7-3H)-labelled norethindrone-3-oxime (NETO) or norethindrone (NET) to rhesus monkeys, the serum concentrations were determined by measuring the radioactivity after separation with HPLC. The serum concentrations of total extractable radioactivity were also measured without HPLC separation.

Subdermal norethindrone pellets — A method for contraception?

Contraception, 1979
The mode of action of compressed pellets containing 85 per cent norethindrone (NET) and 15 per cent cholesterol was studied. Four pellets were inserted subcutaneously, in each of five healthy volunteers and left in place for 200--229 days. The NET content of the pellets varied between 23.9 mg and 25.6 mg; and the cholesterol content between 4.2 mg and ...

Norethindrone plasma levels in human subjects

Life Sciences, 1974
Abstract An analytical procedure for the estimation of norethindrone (17β-hydrox-19-nor-17α-pregn-4-en-20-yn-3-one) in human plasma has been developed. After extraction and purification on a silver ion exchange column, norethindrone is converted to a methoxime-trimethylsilyl ether derivative and measured by a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer ...

Serum norethindrone levels and menstrual pattern after the use of norethindrone implants in rhesus monkeys

Contraception, 1995
Subdermal Silastic implants releasing norethindrone (NET) were inserted in five rhesus monkeys for a period of seven months. The total length of the implants used was 160 mm (eight implants of 20 mm each) containing 160 mg of NET (1 mg NET/mm). The in vivo release rate of NET from the Silastic implants containing 160 mg NET was 3.12 micrograms/day/mm ...

Pharmacokinetics of norethindrone: Effect of particle size

Contraception, 1989
In 24 healthy women between the ages of 19 and 35 years who had not used oral contraceptive preparations for at least 60 days, it was found that the smaller the particle size of norethindrone (NET) administered, the higher was the plasma NET level obtained.

Study of Norethindrone in Contraception

JAMA, 1962
Norethindrone was given to 210 women as a contraceptive, at a dose of 10 mg. per day for 20 days of each menstrual cycle, in order to determine what maximal effectiveness could be achieved in a carefully designed field trial. In a total of 6,232 cycles there were no pregnancies and no rejections of the treatment due to side effects.

Jaundice Associated with Norethindrone Acetate Therapy

New England Journal of Medicine, 1962
METHYLTESTOSTERONE has been known to be associated with jaundice and tissue evidence of biliary cholestasis, as mentioned by Werner in 19501 and by subsequent authors.2 Certain modifications of the...

FERTILITY FOLLOWING TERMINATION OF CONTRACEPTION WITH NORETHINDRONE

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1962
The endometrial morphology of 25 women and the conception rate of 41 women were studied after the discontinuation of use of a combined norethindrone-estrogen oral contraceptive (OC). The endometria of women using the OC for less than 1 year reverted immediately and totally to a normal state and were highly receptive to implantation.
