Persistence of norfluoxetine in marine mussels
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2023The concentration of pharmaceuticals in coastal waters is tending towards increasing due to a shift of the human population into coastal zones. In parallel, the number of prescriptions of antidepressants, mainly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI), is constantly growing.

Fluoxetine/Norfluoxetine Concentrations in Human Milk
Pediatrics, 1992Drug therapy for mothers with postpartum depression is complicated by the need to consider the effect of drugs taken by the mother on the nursing infant. In many cases abrupt weaning of the infant is prescribed so that drug therapy may begin, but this may precipitate conflicting feelings of guilt and cause hormonal upset in the mother, both of which ...

Serum Fluoxetine and Norfluoxetine Concentrations and Antidepressant Response
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 1989A high-performance liquid chromatography assay for fluoxetine and its major metabolite, norfluoxetine, was established. Serum concentrations of the two were measured in 13 depressed outpatients following a 6-week trial of the drug. No significant correlations were obvious between clinical improvement as measured by the Hamilton Rating Scale for ...

Fluoxetine and norfluoxetine plasma concentrations during relapse-prevention treatment
Journal of Affective Disorders, 2002Virtually no attention has been given to the relationship between antidepressant plasma drug concentrations and relapse-prevention during maintenance therapy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between steady-state plasma drug concentrations and outcome during relapse-prevention therapy with fluoxetine. The patients studied ...

Pharmacokinetics of fluoxetine and norfluoxetine in pregnancy and lactation
Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 2003The aim of this prospective clinical trial was to investigate the pharmacokinetics of fluoxetine and its active metabolite, norfluoxetine, during pregnancy, delivery, and lactation in mothers and their infants.Eleven mothers taking fluoxetine and their infants were enrolled in the study.

Comparison of norfluoxetine enantiomers as serotonin uptake inhibitors in vivo
Neuropharmacology, 1992Norfluoxetine, the N-desmethyl metabolite of fluoxetine, has been reported to resemble fluoxetine in being a potent and selective inhibitor of the serotonin uptake carrier. The enantiomers of norfluoxetine have now been compared as serotonin uptake inhibitors in vivo, based on their antagonism of p-chloroamphetamine-induced depletion of serotonin in ...

Determination of fluoxetine and norfluoxetine by high-performance liquid chromatography
Journal of Chromatography A, 1990A high-performance liquid chromatographic assay was developed for a recently introduced atypical antidepressant, fluoxetine and its demethylated metabolite, norfluoxetine. Prior to analysis, aliquots of alkalinized plasma were extracted with n-hexane and isoamyl alcohol, followed by back-extraction with diluted phosphoric acid.

Abstract A thorough analysis of a new commercially available pepsin chiral stationary phase (CSP) has been completed using seproxetine (S-norfluoxetine) hydrochloride bulk drug substance and R-norfluoxetine hydrochloride as the test analytes. Chromatographic properties of this new Ultron ES-Pepsin column were investigated by varying key mobile phase ...

Norfluoxetine Induces Spawning and Parturition in Estuarine and Freshwater Bivalves
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2008Fluoxetine, a commonly prescribed antidepressant (Prozac), has been detected in sewage effluent. Its active metabolite norfluoxetine is more potent and has been detected in sewage influent and in fish tissues. We tested the effects of norfluoxetine on spawning and parturition in bivalves.
