Production of positive controls for calcivirus-specific PCR using recombinant baculiovirus technology [PDF]
Recent advances in our knowledge of the genetic structure of human caliciviruses (HuCVs) and small round-structured viruses (SRSVs) have led to the development of polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based molecular tests specific for these viruses.

Rapid detection of Norwalk-like viruses (NLVs) [PDF]
Describes the development of a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and an enzyme immunoassay for the detection of an Australian Norwalk-like virus group 2b virus (Camberwell) and related viruses and their application to clinical samples ...

EFSA Panel on Biological Hazards (BIOHAZ) Panel; Scientific Opinion on the risk posed by pathogens in food of non-animal origin. Part 1 (outbreak data analysis and risk ranking of food/pathogen combinations) [PDF]
Food of non-animal origin (FoNAO) is consumed in a variety of forms, and a major component of almost all meals. These food types have the potential to be associated with large outbreaks as seen in 2011 associated with VTEC O104.

Molecular Pharming: Advances, Applications, and Future Prospects in Biotechnology and Medicine
ABSTRACT Genetically engineered plants incorporate the use of a novel bioreactor known as molecular pharming, which has a transformative view on the pharmaceutical industry. The technique enables mass production, at a low cost, and reproducibly of a large number of different protein‐based drugs, vaccines, and industrial enzymes. This review‐based study

Viruses and drinking water [PDF]
There is no evidence to indicate that there is a risk of acquiring a virus infection through the consumption of properly treated drinking water, provided the integrity of the distribution system is maintained and there is no post-treatment contamination.

Plants, like humans, have a microbiome that helps them grow, defend themselves against pathogens, acquire nutrients, and protect themselves against environmental stresses. The microbiome of tomatoes, a staple crop grown worldwide, could be utilized not only to reduce fertilizer and pesticide applications, but also to clean up harmful pollutants ...

Metagenomic analysis of RNA viruses in a fresh water lake. [PDF]
Freshwater lakes and ponds present an ecological interface between humans and a variety of host organisms. They are a habitat for the larval stage of many insects and may serve as a medium for intraspecies and interspecies transmission of viruses such as

ABSTRACT Upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) have attracted much attention in nanomedicine due to their ability to upconvert photons. However, their adverse effects hinder the biomedical applications. In this paper, bisphosphonate‐modified poly(isobutylene‐alt‐maleic acid)‐graft‐poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐coated NaYF4:Yb,Er,Pr UCNPs (UCNP@PIMAPDMA ...
