Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Growth of a novel periodic structure of SiC/AlN multilayers by low pressure chemical vapour deposition

open access: yes, 2007
A novel 10-period SiC/AlN multilayered structure with a SiC cap layer is prepared by low pressure chemical vapour deposition (LPCVD). The structure with total film thickness of about 1.45 mu m is deposited on a Si (111) substrate and shows good surface ...

Structure of the Head of the Bartonella Adhesin BadA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Trimeric autotransporter adhesins (TAAs) are a major class of proteins by which pathogenic proteobacteria adhere to their hosts. Prominent examples include Yersinia YadA, Haemophilus Hia and Hsf, Moraxella UspA1 and A2, and Neisseria NadA.

Piezoelectric potential activated interfacial electric field in BiFeO3@BaTiO3 heterojunction for rapid and round-the-clock photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
The highly efficient degradation and purification of organic pollutants in wastewater by photocatalysis is still challenging. In this study, a piezoelectric potential-activated interfacial electric field (IEF) was constructed to endow BiFeO3@BaTiO3 (BFO ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Photo-Fenton catalyst embedded in photothermal aerogel for efficient solar interfacial water evaporation and purification

open access: yesGreen Carbon
Solar steam generation is used for the production of clean water through evaporation. However, during evaporation, high-boiling organic compounds tend to concentrate in the mother liquor, whereas low-boiling organic compounds evaporate with the steam. In

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified
