The Role of Baseflow Data Assimilation in Hydrologic Modeling and Peak Flow Prediction

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract Recent studies have revealed that subsurface water storage and flow pathways contribute a substantially larger share of streamflow than previously assumed. However, because representations of these subsurface contributions in most hydrologic models are uncertain and often biased, they can strongly influence simulated streamflow generation and ...

Foundation‐Scale Satellite Embeddings Reframe Hydrological Generalization as a Representation Problem

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract A persistent challenge in hydrological modeling is reliably transferring predictive skill across time and among basins that appear distinct based on conventional static attributes. Here we address this challenge by leveraging Google's newly released data set generated from the AlphaEarth Foundations model, providing 64‐dimensional satellite ...

Examination of Ozone Sensitivity to Stomatal Conductance in Urban Areas

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract Stomatal conductance is a key factor in controlling ozone deposition velocity. Little is known about stomatal conductance and its impacts on air quality in urban areas because urban vegetation in developed land cover types is often omitted in global and regional models.

Introducing Regularization Constraints Into Combination of GRACE Monthly Terrestrial Water Storage Changes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) observation data processed by various institutions yields somewhat different spherical harmonic solutions, which are further used to derive terrestrial water storage (TWS) changes. Combining TWS solutions from different institutions helps to refine the effective signal while removing noise.
