Assessing high‐resolution numerical models and bottom‐boundary factors for a Mediterranean heavy precipitation event

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
State‐of‐the‐art, convection‐permitting NWP models reproduced the main features of the October 22–23, 2019 heavy precipitation event in Catalonia. However, slight configuration changes yielded varying streamflow responses and statistical performance, highlighting the challenge of simulating these events in Mediterranean medium‐sized basins ...

Development of Water-Repellent Jute Fabric as a Sustainable Solution for Bag Production

open access: yesBioResources
This study explored a sustainable solution for creating water-repellent jute fabrics as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic-based shopping bags. After treating jute fibers to a mixture of the agents NUVA N2114 (fluorinated acrylate copolymer), Acetic ...

Serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) is associated with the overall survival of colorectal cancer: a retrospective study [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Background Serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) had been associated with survival of several cancers. However, its prognostic significance for colorectal cancer (CRC) has not been effectively discussed.

Engineered Gravel Trench Hyporheic Exchange to Create Cold‐Water Thermal Refuges

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Warming rivers are driving a loss or fragmentation of cold‐water habitat and providing the impetus to develop proactive thermal management approaches to maintain suitable habitat in rivers. One innovative approach is through the creation of cold‐water thermal refuges during periods of thermal stress for aquatic species.

Sustainability and Corporate Performance in the Global South: The Influence of the Environmental Pillar and Institutional Quality

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Corporate sustainability in the Global South unfolds under heterogeneous institutional conditions, where firms face simultaneous pressures from global ESG standards and local governance constraints. This study examines the relationship between ESG‐aligned environmental practices and corporate financial performance, considering the moderating ...

Cost‐Optimal Building Energy System Scheduling Integrating Solar Irradiance Forecasting via LSTM‐Attention‐TCN Model

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Building energy systems integrating multiple energy sources can effectively reduce energy consumption and facilitate renewable energy integration. Integrating electrical energy storage (EES) into these systems helps accommodate the increasing share of renewables; however, the stochastic and intermittent nature of solar power still poses ...

Molecular Characterization of Non‐Specific Esophagitis Reveals a Distinct Non‐Eosinophilic Phenotype With Fibrotic Traits

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study comprehensively characterizes non‐specific esophagitis and elucidates eosinophil‐independent fibrosis mechanisms. NSE appears to be a distinct fibrotic phenotype of the esophagus, without any considerable overlap with GERD and other chronic inflammatory disorders such as EoE or lymphocytic esophagitis.

Validation of Aortic Blood Flow Simulations During Extracorporeal Circulation Using Phase Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
This is the first study assessing in vivo blood flow profiles during extracorporeal circulation (ECC) scenarios. Magnetic resonance imaging data served for the calibration of computational fluid dynamics algorithms, enabling accurate replication of the hemodynamic conditions.

Deep-learning-based detection of underwater fluids in multiple multibeam echosounder data

open access: yesFrontiers in Remote Sensing
Detecting and locating emitted fluids in the water column is necessary for studying margins, identifying natural resources, and preventing geohazards. Fluids can be detected in the water column using multibeam echosounder data.

Rapid generation of prion disease models using AAV‐delivered PrP variants in knockout mice

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
We developed a rapid AAV‐based system to generate prion disease models in weeks rather than months. Following systemic AAV9P31 delivery of modified PrP to knockout mice, we achieved brain‐wide expression and successful propagation of both classical (RML) and atypical (GSS‐A117V) prion strains.
