Description of atomic excitations in heavy-ion reactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Excitations of the atomic shell in heavy-ion collisions are influenced by the presence of a nuclear reaction. In the present Rapid Communication we point out the equivalence between a semiclassical description based on the nuclear autocorrelation ...

Precision Measurements of d(d,p)t and d(d,n)^3He Total Cross Sections at Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis Energies

open access: yes, 2006
Recent Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) measurements have determined the baryon density of the Universe $\Omega_b$ with a precision of about 4%.

The effect of 12C + 12C rate uncertainties on s-process yields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The slow neutron capture process in massive stars (the weak s-process) produces most of the s-only isotopes in the mass region 60 < A < 90. The nuclear reaction rates used in simulations of this process have a profound effect on the final s-process ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Removing uncertainties from X-ray Busrt Models [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Two of the astrophysically important reactions for X-ray burst models are 24Mg(α, γ)28Si and 59Cu(p, γ)60Zn. However, since these models are sensitive to nuclear reaction rates, it is important to constrain them to reduce possible model uncertainties ...

Analytical results connecting stellar structure parameters and extended reaction rates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Possible modification in the velocity distribution in the non-resonant reaction rates leads to an extended reaction rate probability integral. The closed form representation for these thermonuclear functions are used to obtain the stellar luminosity and ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Transitions To Door-way States And Nuclear Responses Against 2-body External Fields [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Nuclear microscopic structural models that treat two-body effective interactions self-consistently becomes available, one of which is second-random-phase-approximation (SRPA).

SNR-calibrated Type Ia supernova models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Current Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) models can reproduce most visible+IR + UV observations. In the X-ray band, the determination of elemental abundance ratios in supernova remnants (SNRs) through their spectra has reached enough precision to constrain SN ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
