Automated segmentation of tissue images for computerized IHC analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents two automated methods for the segmentation ofimmunohistochemical tissue images that overcome the limitations of themanual approach aswell as of the existing computerized techniques.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Nuclear receptors as novel regulators that modulate cancer radiosensitivity and normal tissue radiotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Cancer
Nuclear receptors (NRs) are a superfamily of transcription factors that are involved in various pathophysiological processes. The human genome contains 48 types of nuclear receptors, including steroid hormone receptors (e.g., estrogen receptor [ER] and ...

Farnesoid X receptor activation increases cholesteryl ester transfer protein expression in humans and transgenic mice

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2013
Cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) activity results in a proatherogenic lipoprotein profile. In cholestatic conditions, farnesoid X receptor (FXR) signaling by bile acids (BA) is activated and plasma HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) levels are low.

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Immunomodulatory effects of curcumin on receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand in periodontitis

open access: yesMediterranean Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the tooth-supporting structures, often causing alveolar bone loss due to increased osteoclast activity mediated by receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand.

A–C Estrogens as Potent and Selective Estrogen Receptor-Beta Agonists (SERBAs) to Enhance Memory Consolidation under Low-Estrogen Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Estrogen receptor-beta (ERβ) is a drug target for memory consolidation in postmenopausal women. Herein is reported a series of potent and selective ERβ agonists (SERBAs) with in vivo efficacy that are A–C estrogens, lacking the B and D estrogen rings ...
