Cyclic nucleotides and photoreception

Experimental Eye Research, 1973
Abstract Biochemical evidence indicates that the production of cyclic-AMP by vertebrate rod outer-segments is regulated by illumination. Injection of cyclic nucleotides directly into photoreceptor cells of the invertebrate, Limulus , is without significant physiological effect.

Chemistry of Cyclic Nucleotides and Cyclic Nucleotide Analogs

1982
Since the isolation and characterization of cAMP in early 1957, several enzymatic and chemical synthetic procedures have been developed to provide cAMP and various cyclic nucleotide analogs. The synthesis of cAMP and 2′-deoxy-cAMP by bacterial fermentation is of current commercial interest as a low cost source of nucleoside 3′,5′-cyclic phosphates.

CYCLIC NUCLEOTIDE-DEPENDENT PROTEIN KINASES

Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1991
The actions of several hormones and neurotransmitters evoke signal transduction pathways which rapidly elevate the cytosolic concentrations of the intracellular messengers, cAMP and cGMP. The cyclic-nucleotide dependent protein kinases, cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) and cGMP-dependent protein kinase (PKG), are the major intracellular receptors of

Cyclic Nucleotides and Fever

1982
The events taking place intracellularly within the central nervous system when pyrogens, putative neurotransmitters or other pharmacologically active substances raise body temperature during fever are poorly understood. Recognition of cyclic AMP as an intracellular mediator of adrenaline and glucagon-induced activation of hepatic glycolysis (Sutherland

[63] Cyclic nucleotides

1988
Publisher Summary This chapter describes methods for the extraction and measurement of cyclic nucleotides, their typical intracellular concentrations, and the estimation of the activities of adenylate cyclase and cAMP phosphodiesterase. Some details of the tetra- and pentaphosphates of guanosine (ppGpp and pppGpp), although not cyclic nucleotides ...
